I have a friend who is self-employed. He uses an iPhone and a MacBook Air. He only uses iMessage, Numbers, Safari and Apple Music for entertainment. He gets away with 8gb just fine and rarely has to reboot.

He probably could use a Chromebook or something even lighter, but the support and ecosystem were enough for him to pay the premium. His time is valuable to him so it was worth it to him.

What is the obsession with shitting on people's choices? I don't understand the irony of demanding choice in this industry, then shitting on people when they make a choice you don't agree with.

1Blocker has been the best for me, as it works with all of the Apple devices and syncs across them. Another option is to enable reader mode by default on all websites, so instead of getting the site with all of the ads, you'll get a reader view without the ads and distractions.

I actually like Apple’s approach to AI more than all of the others. I don’t care for Microsoft’s implementation at all. I just try to avoid Microsoft in general on top of that, so no need to complain about it.

But I do think Apple’s approach to AI from a privacy and implementation perspective is what I would prefer from a software vendor.

I'm GenX, and I spent about ~25 years in the corporate racket before I realized that they don't give a fuck. I'm all about living now as well, and I encourage others to do the same.

Teams won't even open on Safari. Must use a chrome-based browser (like... Edge!)

This, and also so they can avoid your plugins that kill browser tracking for ads and shit.

A few months ago I was suddenly craving a pan pizza... out of nowhere. In the 80's, Pizza Hut pan pizza was the shit. I was pining for the nostalgia, I suppose.

The pizza was got was awful. Truly horrible. Pizza Hut is dead to me.

I'm still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don't trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What's the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?

Edit: I meant to also express my frustration that most browsers do not let you select a "default search engine" that can be used in the address bar aside from 3-5 pre-chosen engines. Seems like 2023 we should be able to customize that to our own liking.

Edit 2: Thanks for the recommendation of Kagi. I'm going to roll with it for a while. I see they have an extension for Safari that allows them to hijack the address bar, which is just what I needed.

You can parent your children all day long and everything is just fine at home. As soon as your kids are unleashed into the world of school, it's anything goes. Your child is immediately subjected to all the poor and awful parenting that is outside your control. The only thing you can do is give them skills to navigate those situations. Sounds like @sunbeam60@lemmy.one did just that. Bravo.

Any of you out there walking zombies today? I woke up at 3:30am to these thunder bumpers. Woke up off and on until it was time to get up. Are y'all dragging today?

Welcome, everyone (lemmy.world)

I was wondering if someone would create a madisonalabama forum on Lemmy, and since no one did... here we are.

Let's try to keep this place local and interesting, and use good judgment about what to post. I'll be happy to open it up to some folks who would like to help moderate.
