Wonder if it's the fact that they haven't been at war since the 70s, or had the fastest rise in the standard of living the humanity has ever seen, that China is actively helping Global South develop, or perhaps that it's is the only major nation actually transitioning off fossil fuels in a meaningful way...
Kallas runs around talking shit about USSR and claims that her family was prosecuted during Soviet times.
Barring starting a nuclear holocaust, I really can't see what the west can do at this point to halt China's progress.
That's what I was thinking, there's a lot of potential here for building an ecosystem that works completely differently from the current crop of LLMs. This is the kind of stuff we should be exploring on the left instead of just trying to boycott anything AI related in a reactionary fashion.
I really do think that people in charge are completely divorced from the material reality we inhabit.
For sure, the arrogance stems from the fact that they haven't been personally affected in any way, and nobody in their immediate circle has either. In a sense, they inhabit an alternate reality where none of the problems the majority of the population experiences exist. As soon as there's a material impact on their own life style, it becomes impossible to ignore that.
That's the big question, the rational thing for Europe to do is to align towards China. However, that would mean abandoning the notion of being superior to China. That may be a bridge too far for the Europeans.
the whole chatbot analogy is incredibly fitting when you think about it
I don't see how that follows. I'm not suggesting that online agitprop is not useful, I'm simply saying that we already do a lot of it. However, AI somehow became controversial within left circles and people are avoiding using it. Yet, it's an excellent tool that drastically lowers the barrier for making memes and other types of content that we should be leveraging.
Furthermore, AI tools can absolutely help with real world organizing as well. You can use LLMs to create study guides, sum up key points in literature, and so on. If you're working with a local group in person, you still have to prepare material that you use for education. Having a tool that can save time doing that is invaluable.
There is a lot of palace intrigue going on for sure, so entirely possible it is the former.
I'm still kind of hopeful that the oligarchs will decide to retrench exploit their domestic populations harder than live the rest of their lives in a bunker.
