The Texas State Board of Education approved a new curriculum that will incorporate stories from the Bible into elementary school education.

In an eight-to-seven vote on Tuesday, the board approved the state-written “Bluebonnet” curriculum, which infuses Bible stories into language arts materials for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. All four Democrats on the board were joined by three Republicans in voting unsuccessfully against the curriculum.

The European Union says Twitter alternative Bluesky violates the EU Digital Services Act rules around information disclosure, reports Reuters. But since Bluesky isn’t yet big enough to be considered a “very large online platform” under the DSA, the regulator says it can’t regulate Bluesky the way it does X or Threads. The Financial Times quotes European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier, who told reporters about the violation during a Monday press briefing: “All platforms in the EU . . . have to have a dedicated page on their website where it says how many users they have in the EU and where they are legally established,” said commission spokesman Thomas Regnier. “This is not the case for Bluesky as of today. This is not followed.” ...

Conclusions and Relevance In this cohort study, after adjusting for measured confounders, long-term exposure to wildfire and nonwildfire PM2.5 over a 3-year period was associated with dementia diagnoses. As the climate changes, interventions focused on reducing wildfire PM2.5 exposure may reduce dementia diagnoses and related inequities.

Roldan started the segment, talking about how he was “giving” Pagano a mega championship match against Alberto tonight. AAA cut to Pagano interrupting, berating Roldan for lying to the Juarez people. Pagano said he was only getting this shot because someone else got hurt. Pagano said this was not a storyline – using those words and more – and that he’d been asking Roldan for a title match and singles matches for years, and Roldan has refused. Pagano quoted Roldan as telling Pagano that both he and Psycho Clown were the new La Parkas, good for drawing children but not for anything beyond that, and the title matches were for other people. Pagano clearly sees that as immensely frustrating and feels disrespected by the idea Roldan was ‘giving’ him anything – he’s worked hard on every house, he sacrificed time with his family, he’s earned all that he’s got.

Trying to bring some life into this community. One of the things that has always fascinated me about totk is all the crazy contraptions people build, so I’ll be posting them as I come across them and crediting where I can.

As a side note, I was unaware you could do this to the cucco

“Marley was dead: to begin with,” begins Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, the ghostly morality tale of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who, through a series of encounters with spirits in the early hours of Christmas morning, realises he needs to change his ways.

It is an imagined story – there is no Scrooge and, unlike his unfortunate business partner, he is not dead. But that does not appear to have mattered to a vandal in Shropshire, where a gravestone of Scrooge used in a 1984 film adaptation has been smashed into multiple pieces.

The prop, a heavy piece of stone several centimetres thick engraved with the name “Ebenezer Scrooge”, has lain in the graveyard of St Chad’s church, Shrewsbury, since the movie 40 years ago starring George C Scott.

While Scrooge is definitely fictional, the stone may have belonged to an unknown real person whose name was weathered away over hundreds of years, according to a BBC interview with Martin Wood, Shrewsbury’s town crier, who was a body double in the film.

It can be seen in the scene where Scrooge, described by Dickens as “a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner”, is taken to the grave of an unloved man by the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and discovers it bears his own name.

Town council clerk Helen Ball said the prop was a popular attraction in the village. “It’s one of those things that is very dear to everybody’s hearts,” she told BBC Radio Shropshire. “When you look at the Facebook messages that people put on yesterday, it’s united a community in terms of the disgust that somebody can do that.”

...

She said: “Maybe if it’s someone in their drunken revelry, they might have posted it on Facebook or something, and maybe somebody with a bit of conscience might let us know who that is.

“Or equally,” she said, providing a potentially satisfying ending, “the person who did it may have a conscience and decide to own up”.

Ball added, in true Victorian style, it would be a “good reason to bring the stocks back”.
