depends what you mean by “join”

if confidently cis
good things to do:

  • subscribe to the community and lurk only to get a better understanding of trans people
  • add pronouns in your display name to make the lemmyverse better for trans people
  • upvote posts and comments for visibility and support
  • cis questions go in a place like !askchapo@hexbear.net where trans people will respond because this is a trans majority instance, but it’s in a space users expect to interact with cis people

don’ts

  • never downvote in the comm, you do not have the prerequisites to be entitled to an opinion on trans things. hexbear will discard it anyway but it affects visibility in your home instance and maybe others
  • don’t interact other than upvoting, this is a place to escape cis stuff that oversaturates almost every other space

might be missing some points

if exploring the possibility you are trans, congratulations, you are gender questioning and can comment here to help sort yourself out, make sure to use content warnings and spoilers and err on the side of using too many too often

Thank you for the explanation. I've probably got it.

  • add pronouns in your display name to make the lemmyverse better for trans people
Would it also count if I added any symbol that I identify as male? Like "[male]" or the male gender emoji? By the way, what I meant by "join" is just following the community (UI Button). I'm bad at communicating online ☹️

also, switching the language box to “English” or “Undetermined” is necessary for comments in this comm to show up for most users

nah, you’re good. and the pronouns thing is for interacting in english spaces and it’s fine to not add it if you only intend to lurk and learn and mostly interact in non-english space.

male is a fine identity, but males can use any pronouns so a male may have [they/them] pronouns and still be male, so [male] is useless to indicate what pronouns to use

do you want only [he/him]? do you mind people referring to you as [they/them] or [she/her]? if you don’t have pronouns preferences you can use [any] or [none/use name]
