I have become known as "the guy who doesnt watch game of thrones" in my friend group and I've never felt more accepted or accomplished.
It was a very exhausting and awkward bunch of lunchtime and after-class conversations with faculty, along with endless magazine covers and other media mentions I didn't ask for and didn't want, and what I learned about Gambo Thrones was through osmosis because DAE LE RED WEDDING and DAE LE SHAME were primary and redundant conversation topics that I had nothing to say about except "I don't watch that" which often got responses like "WHY NOT? ARE YOU A PRUDE?" and of course "YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS CLIP, THIS PARTICULAR MURDERFUCKING WILL PULL YOU IN!"
The only close runner up for aggressively proselytizing fandom in the same time period was for Richard and Mortimer, and the overlap between the two fandoms sometimes seemed like a circle.
Why are people obsessed with Watching movies with people walking around farting and pretend fighting in rubber suits? (cape shit)
You know, now that you mention it, I may have somehow blacked out much of my second-hand exposure to capeshit. It was also everywhere, I was constantly asked if I watched Side Movie #7 and Side Show #3 so I understood the reference in Main Movie #9 or whatever, but I guess I just found it obnoxious and redundant instead of both that and grotesque and edgy for edginess' sake.
Joss Whedon being a creep didn't surprise me and was a bit of schadenfreude years after his rise to cultural dominance.
