I see timelines where I’m like “hrt is magic”, but my brain can’t accept it works for me.
I hope it has and I just have BDD.

begging people to stop looking at timelines

[–] Shinhoshi@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

they're like baby photos, cute and embarrassing and private and also baby photos are brain poison in this analogy

[–] Tomboymoder@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I just hope hrt makes my face look like a girl

[–] thirtymilliondeadfish@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

it will, it does. It's drastic but subtle you know? You're never going to see anything day to day, but look back far enough and it's like you're a long lost sibling

[–] Tomboymoder@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I hope, idk if my brain will ever see it.

Oh you'll see it. Maybe not all the time, but you'll see it. Lord knows I still don't some days. But what you see and what they see are different things, you know your own weaknesses and insecurities far better than they do. You're your own worst critic etc

[–] sneak100@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago

I only see glimpses, but I'm very thankful even for that. I hope your brain sees you too

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

frfrfr barely recognize myself from older pics and I've been on full-powered actual hrt for less than a year

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

yea That's the dream, isn't it

[–] Tommasi@hexbear.net 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Why?

Genuinely asking btw, I think they're fun and cute and I don't see what's harmful about it

often the ones that gain traction on social media are posted by beautiful people who have a lot of time and/or money to spend on their transition, and are expert at working lighting/angles/makeup. they're often not realistic and maybe I'm cynical but they often seem like a way of farming jealousy clicks from people less far along. (inadvertently I mean, I don't blame people for posting them but it's the nature of social media) being jealous of people on social media is a brain worm and can be very detrimental.

They're fun and cute up until the point it goes from "look what hrt can do!" to "hrt will never do that for me". You're comparing years of change in an instant, often of the most conventionally attractive people, who pick the most flattering shots to share. It's not an overnight thing but seeing the side-by-side makes it seem so, and therefore unattainable.

They're a useful pre-transition resource, they very quickly lose that when you start comparing yourself with them

You can't speed run a transition. It's a marathon.
