As an outsider, US politics seems like a total clown show to me. Everyone involved.

[–] ChocoboRocket@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The real clowns are the voters, same in Canada.

Most of the people who could stand to benefit from progressive leaders never show up to vote, or if they can be assed to vote, do absolutely zero research and vote entirely based on emotion or an irrelevant issue.

Government absolutely works, there is a reason its heavily lobbied and every wealthy person votes in 100% of any election possible to further their own agenda.

At least we still have some bread and circus

[–] giffybiss@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago

But wait. Didn’t they vote for this guy? I thought he was supposed to be the “progressive” option.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Oh it is. It's pathetic.

It is, class and sophistication are dead. We throwin' handfuls of shit at each other now.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

As an insider I can assure you it is.

You can thank cable media culture for curating that over the past 20+ years. It's basically morphed into an entertainment event with theatrics akin to the WWE.

Comolete clown show, but everyone is out of makeup

[–] misterd1ck@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

As an insider…. Same…

As an American, I agree.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

you are not wrong

[–] lagomorphlecture@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I'm certainly ashamed of my country.

[–] Blackout@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

The circus comes to town every year.

Why doesn't he just bring Roe back now.

He is the president right now, this is presumably as powerful as he's going to get.

If it is within the president's power to reinstate Roe v. Wade then just do it now.

If it isn't then stop fucking about.

TL;DR: just do it now

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's not how governments work, dumbass. Congress makes the laws. Do you kids never learn anything in schools anymore?

Biden is the de facto head of the Democratic party but he himself has no explicit power to create new laws. All he can do is rally Congress, and there aren't enough Democratic senators to overrule the Republican filibuster.

Biden is not the Supreme Dictator. His power, every President's power, is limited to the Executive sphere. By design.

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So it's not within his power, so he's fucking about then.

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He said "we", dumbass

Wtf is wrong with you

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Directly from the article:

“Get real, Jack. I’m bringing Roe back,” the ad reads.

This is like being back on reddit.

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm sorry, are you stupid enough to believe that Joe Biden, alone, individually, can do anything?

Piss off, troll
