Another quote:
"Capitalism’s grow-or-die imperative stands radically at odds with ecology’s imperative of interdependence and limit. The two imperatives can no longer coexist with each other; nor can any society founded on the myth that they can be reconciled hope to survive. Either we will establish an ecological society or society will go under for everyone, irrespective of his or her status." -- Ursula K. Le Guin
Looks like it will be going under for everyone.
a rising tide drowns all cattle
That it does. I've got more hope about extraterrestrials showing up to fix it for us than I do about us fixing it ourselves at this point.
Don't lump us all together.
There is a parasite growing in us and it wants to thrive at any cost. It is not us.
You are right, but I don't have faith that those with the will to change it are numerous enough to triumph against the number of people and companies and dollars that don't want to do what needs to be done.
Thats understandable and I think I arrive at the same point. All be it from a slightly different way. I have no faith in us doing anything to change it because no one likes the answer.
What do you feed an insatiable monster who can absorb any weapon you throw at it and poops out planet killing gas?
As little as possible.
What does capitalism actually feed on?
Human labour.
Specifically human labour, above and beyond what we need to live and have a comfortable life. The problem is, you can't have super rich without vast amounts of excess, toxic, forced labour.
The answer has always been the strategic refusal of work. The problem is, you might as well tell people that the way to salvation is punching babies in the face because work is now as much a god as anything else we've had in human culture.
Want to sit around and do nothing to save the planet?
Well, now you can.
Blaming all our ills on some foreign influence instead of owning it as a part of you is the first step to underestimating its effects, and missing how best to fix it.
"Evil" is a human invention to excuse the inexcusable so we don't have to face the dark parts of ourselves.
The solution is absolute destruction and the end of human life! It's just unfortunate we will not be here to watch the world become better without any of these useless pieces of meat around.
Getting into space properly would give us at least a lot of breathing room on that whole 'infinite growth' paradigm.
Humanity is definitely fucking up with our starter resources and early base building strategy.
We have more than enough space and resources to grow for a long time. The majority of the limits we are stressing are inventions by the haves to keep the have-nots in check.
