Read some Marvel from the 70's people were scared as fuck it was the end of the world because of the oil crisis and turmoil in the middle east and it made it's way to comic books.

The first Gundam is from that era and Newtypes were portrayed as psychedelic world conscious emphats that would bring a better peaceful world. Basically the OG “the kids are alright”/“Zoomers will save us”
