That’s because the Overton window has shifted.

In most of the Western world, mainstream Democrats (neoliberals etc) align with the far right political groups.

Generalized prejudice is a minor subset of that group, except where it spans the political landscape.

And then there’s the Nordic countries. Not perfect, but free health, free education and consistently ranked the happiest in the world. Apparently they’re doing something right. You know, looking after their citizens.

I always hear this praise from people who don't live in that part of the world and hear something else from those who do/have.

What they have done with tiny populations is commendable but has Norway done a better job of managing its resources than the UAE or Qatar or other nations with large petrochemical reserves and tiny populations?

Depends on your definition of “population.”

In UAE and Qatar, the male citizens are generally happy.
