I mean⦠Joel is hand picked for a solo extraction mission to bring the last hope for humanity across the country.
RE4 Leon is an operative trained to the highest level possible by the US government. Talented enough that he killed his own mentor after he became a superhuman.
Joel is a smuggler. Probably a very good one, like Han Solo, but still. He was picked as much out of desperation as he was for his reputation.
Joel was only picked because no one else who could do it showed up that afternoon and the resistance was completely out of options.
Yeah, pretty much the whole story of The Last of Us is how Joel wasn't the best option but turned out fine
There ainβt a lot of people to choose from at that point in history.
Also, it she wasn't humanities last hope. The fireflies had found multiple people who were immune before Ellie, they were just hoping they'd learn something new from her.
