No. I looked at different testimonials and believe this estimation is safer and closer to a potential reality.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Tiananmen_Square_protests_and_massacre - Death toll section

I believe I checked the numbers at the French page some time ago, and based on the diversity of reports and their background, I personally believed that it was around 500. I do get that people can estimate a bit more or a bit less though.

So Wikipedia is what convinced you?

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wikipedia is a community-driven encyclopedia based on sources. All claims include a source.

What do you want more?

Those articles being on a controversial topic, have been moderated and are pretty well done in my opinion.

You should ask him about this : https://lemmy.nz/comment/15846421 Seem to be too much for him.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We got it. They're avoiding to answer or acknowledge your comment.

Yeah, I think he is a paid troll but no need to be insulting or hurting.

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I’m not insulting 🤔 just joking with the fact that French speakers and English don’t really go well together

[–] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Ha no I mean me, I didn't want to misgender, you weren't insulting. Sorry my English isn't really good

So it was Wikipedia that convinced you?

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was convinced something happened way before this, but for the number of deaths, yes, that was my source.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml -1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Ok. They'd fail you for that in highschool

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr -1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

For sure, that’s why I passed then.

Stop talking nonsense please.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml -1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

You used Wikipedia as a source and passed?

Standards sure have dropped

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 0 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

One of the sources, or just get the sources quoted in wikipedia and use them. Ofc you're supposed to check on multiple sources, but using wikipedia isn't bad.

Not sure what you have against it.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml -1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Good god, I knew education standards had dropped but didn't realise they'd dropped that much

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Instead of being mean and changing subjects, do you have anything interesting to add?
