MODERATORS

Update: Due to overwhelming support for defederation, we will be going through with that at 12am Moscow time (approx. 8hrs from now). Thanks to everyone who provided their feedback.

It's come to our attention that the admins of europe.pub are allowing pro-genocide rhetoric and Nazi propaganda to be freely posted on their instance.

Additionally, the main perpetrator has been promoted to moderator on the Poland@europe.pub comm where they consistently post pro-ukrainian-nazi propaganda and wish death upon the Russian people.

Due to these factors and the unwillingness of europe.pub admins to act, we are holding a vote to defederate from their instance. Please comment with either an emote or yes/no to the question: should we defederate from europe.pub?

eu-cool or "Yes" - Defederate

poland-cool or "No" - Remain federated

Interesting that Blahaj is mentioned here. Is there any hope of us refedding with them someday I wonder

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I talked about it with Ada and she said she would put up a vote on their end and we would on ours but since she never did I assume she has no interest in refederation.

This was with the caveat that hexbear blocks the 196 community

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, ada sees it as her project, not a group project for the whole trans community. Marcie has tried many times to get us back together on something but it always explodes cause of Ada's ego. Typical when a lib gets control of a trans space, really.

This is basically why I think it would be good for us to take a big first public step. Libs are almost always willing to cave to optics and I think our trans community voting strongly in favor of refed hurts the optics enough that Ada would be forced to capitulate.

Although now that I posted this she could just go find this post and say SEE HEXBEAR TANKIE MODMINS ARE MANIPULATING THE TRANS COMMUNITY or something as if we aren't part of it.

I dunno. I just like Blahaj and think it's such a shame that we don't hang out anymore.

Also sorry for hijacking this thread. I'll stop now doggirl-sweat

We had a big thing where we were trying to replicate r/diy or r/transsurgeries from reddit on a separate 3rd instance, Marcie got like 15 people in the same chat who were interested in working on it then ada pulled the plug on it basically when they weren't all going to do 100% exactly as she said essentially. Oh well 🤷‍♀️

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yeah, the main issue was she wasn’t prioritizing the right things. A trans surgery comm would require a lot more privacy than a normal comm. we were proposing one that would function as an isolated comm which we could add people more carefully to after some basic screening process but she wanted it to be pretty open in terms of federation.

She wanted to prioritize growth over privacy and that was the biggest issue

[–] Edie@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Her idea was never going to work while hexbear and blahaj was defederated, on a technical level.

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

It would be nice if we could just whitelist specific comms between us, like trans mutual aid/support comms or relatively light-hearted comms like /c/cute (shameless plug).

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

ada pulled the plug on it basically when they weren't all going to do 100% exactly as she said essentially

thats a common behavior with her

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

Yea I would also block the new one it's just as reactionary and idealist

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

the schism just lead to 3 comms who are exactly the same

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Might be worth doing on our end anyway. Show a good faith effort. It's slightly performative but I think if our community shows overwhelming support for reconciliation it might put some pressure on. I mean maybe the Blahaj community hates us and we show support for it and they just laugh at us and if so, fine, but I'm usually in favor of being the bigger person and showing up first.

Or maybe our community is like fuck no and okay. Either way I think putting in the effort doesn't hurt. Although I know you're always putting in a lot of effort in a lot of places so maybe this isn't the best use of your time right now either.

Just my 2 beanis

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago

Unfortunately we've tried many times in the past at this point, the issue isn't on our side

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The past 2 or even 3 times I've called for a vote for lemmy.blahaj.zone federation it's been an overwhelming "no" but I'm always open to another!

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

Oh interesting. My vibe check is clearly wrong, it happens

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mentioned this elsewhere, but would there be any easy way to have limited federation? Like trans-specific comms and non-contentious stuff.

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sure but I don't think Ada wants to, another user recommended a vote so I can look at what lbz communities to remove and we can go from there

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Because we can't federate with lemmy blahaj zone (lbz) while she has hexbear on the blocklist. So any vote for hexbear users to federate with lbz would be symbolic

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

She and her wife are the only 2 admins of that instance. Their individual communities have more mods but if the admins choose not to federate then anything we do on our end is useless

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

This was with the caveat that hexbear blocks the 196 community

I thought the original mods left? Do the new mods hate us too?

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I understand and accept why we de federated from them initially but it still makes me sad that the two biggest explicitly pro-trans instances are separated. I still hope someday we can settle any differences, especially considering certain elements pushing division are no longer there.

Then I’ll be able to post in the boykisser comm from my normal hexbear account.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Same on all counts. Blahaj pls open your minds up to the possibility that maybe we can be friends someday

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

Well, if I remember correctly it was us that decided to defed initially and I felt the reasons for it were valid at the time. Again, though, things have changed since and I’d be curious to hear opinions here from people why or why not we should refed with them.
