How about we don’t expect black men to permanently give up their facial hair because of a fucking job.
Yeah, I'm down. Readiness doesn't need a razor shave, as evidenced by our Special Forces in the Middle East.
If they had a threat of chemical warfare, they would have to shave too. You can't get a good gas mask seal with facial hair unless you use a ton of Vaseline and have time to prepare.
Yes, in those circumstances everyone needs to be clean shaven. But it's not an everyday thing and a Marine with the condition could deal with the problem afterwards.
Shaving was because of gas masks. The mask needs rubber-on-skin contact to make an airtight seal, and a beard prevents that from happening. If there’s a threat of chemical warfare, shaving chits get revoked.
And yet, the Canadian military has absolutely no problem allowing our troops to have full beards.
Yeah modern SCBAs don't rely on half-face masks anymore.
