Contract towing for apartments is a sin. I've literally considered keeping caltrops in my car to throw in front of them.
Most other types of towing are objectively good though. Hell I'll be calling a tow in a couple days to get my vehicle repaired.
I've worked with plenty of great tow truck operators. The bad ones are as follows: contract town agencies, wreckers in cities like Houston, TX who are encouraged to speed.
The latter I've seen going down highways over 100mph, using emergency lanes to skip traffic and make it to a call (not allowed), I've seen them CAUSE plenty of accidents. In going to find examples for this comment I found too many to choose from. Red light running, high speed, baby-death. The wreckers in that city need some serious reform.
The former of those two groups I've found often targets those at the highest risk. My classic Toyota, '92 was towed for being one months out of tags, I couldn't afford to retrieve it. Meanwhile my neighbor's porsche has been parked with expired out of state tags for almost a year. See, if you can't afford to get the car back, they get to auction it off to "pay for the debt". Fucking privateers.
