Maybe I just hate them but it really feels that way. I don't have the energy to think about it that hard though

Absolutely yes they're guarding food with legal force

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

legal force of... calling the actual police? they have no power

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Typo, meant lethal. They carry guns.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Do they really? At costco it's just like some middle aged lady checking receipts

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Yes? Local grocery stores in downtown areas employ rent a cops with guns or off duty police? And I live in a downtown area so I'm telling you with first-hand knowledge these fuckers carry guns

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

The one I go to has rent a cops with body armor and a pistol. Probably cuffs and a tazer too but I haven't looked too hard

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

oh, well they're definitely not supposed to be shooting shoplifters.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah they're not supposed to and honestly I haven't seen anything happen. But they have guns

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Alright cool, glad I am not alone in this thought

From a strict class analysis perspective, yes. As others have said, their social role is to serve as enforcers of capital, just like cops. They may not have the level of power and reach that cops have and are quite a bit more constrained from doing the serious and egregious things cops do, like murdering people of color with impunity - cops obviously do this, but with grocery store security, that isn't a systemic issue like it is with cops. So the magnitude of their class treachery is not anywhere near the scale that it is at for cops. But scale aside, the role they play is still one of using force to defend capital and uphold the capitalist order. And that definitionally makes the people from the working class who fill that role class traitors.

There is another caveat though, another one that sets them apart from cops and provides some wiggle room that doesn't exist for cops. A person can get the job of grocery store security guy, but not actually do the job. The ones who don't actually do what they signed up for, and knowingly avoid doing what their job description would have them do, these are "the good ones." I would contend that there are no good cops because any cop that does not fulfill their duty simply doesn't last as a cop. With cops, as with fascist gangs (same picture I know), if you don't demonstrate your loyalty to the system and your complete adherence to the blue code of silence, you are immediately ejected (or even killed). dorner as a classic example - he reported other cops for excessive force, it was ruled that he was lying and he was kicked off the force. All that happened long before he... became famous. You don't get to be a cop if you don't do cop shit. Not the case with grocery store security, though.

The store security people who actually do their job and play the role they're supposed to play are traitors, as established. But the ones who are there just to get a paycheck and who purposefully look the other way when someone at the self-checkout is bagging 5 items for every 1 they scan, these ones are fine. They're not class traitors because they're actually being a traitor with respect to the job/role of capital enforcer. It really is a double negative sort of thing. 1 minus -1 = 2. There is no grocery store security culture like there is cop culture that prevents this from happening sometimes. Some chud security guys might like to pretend there is, but in actual practice, it's just not there. So grocery security people have a lot more room to just not do what they were hired to do and in that way, it is possible for someone to get that job and not be a traitor. Unlike cops.

This is why ATTDAB (all tow truck drivers are bastards). The "good ones" tow nobody and lose their jobs

[–] i_drink_bleach@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Tow truck drivers are literally just road pirates. Fuck those assholes.

"I feel like you parked illegally, so I'm going to steal your car and you need to pay me $500 to get it back."

But I didn't park illegally. I was allowed to park there.

"Take it up with the owner! Not my problem!"

"Also I fucked up your car when I towed it, but I'm not obligated to pay for that."

(Yeah... sure sure. You'll be "obligated" to pay for all the property damage I'm about to do (in minecraft))

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh great you stole my only means of transport to work and moved it across town in a place far from any public transport. Oh and you're holding it ransom for an arbitrary quantity of cash. Now I have to taxi or uber or bum a ride all over the place and call in sick from work and risk getting fired.

[–] i_drink_bleach@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

Just legal thievery. But it's on you to make it work. Otherwise your employer will take it out of your ass. Cool system.

Firebombing tow yards should be legal and encouraged. Just the admin sections though. The rest is just a yard full of stolen cars.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Last time the tow truck assholes stole my car I asked the guy at the desk if he believed in God because he was going to hell. The poor lady who was also there to get her car back got a kick out of that at least.

There are good tow truck drivers, but they’re the rare ones that only do specific calls, not roam towing.

I’ve called tow trucks with AAA where AAA calls are basically all they get called to. That’s fine. Sometimes a car breaks down and needs towed.

If you’re just checking for illegally parked cars and towing them you can get in The Pit

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

Contract towing for apartments is a sin. I've literally considered keeping caltrops in my car to throw in front of them.

Most other types of towing are objectively good though. Hell I'll be calling a tow in a couple days to get my vehicle repaired.

I've worked with plenty of great tow truck operators. The bad ones are as follows: contract town agencies, wreckers in cities like Houston, TX who are encouraged to speed.

The latter I've seen going down highways over 100mph, using emergency lanes to skip traffic and make it to a call (not allowed), I've seen them CAUSE plenty of accidents. In going to find examples for this comment I found too many to choose from. Red light running, high speed, baby-death. The wreckers in that city need some serious reform.

The former of those two groups I've found often targets those at the highest risk. My classic Toyota, '92 was towed for being one months out of tags, I couldn't afford to retrieve it. Meanwhile my neighbor's porsche has been parked with expired out of state tags for almost a year. See, if you can't afford to get the car back, they get to auction it off to "pay for the debt". Fucking privateers.

I was at a big box home improvement store one time where they had PINKERTONS!! Couldn't believe my eyes.

[–] i_drink_bleach@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

Pinkertons are ALWAYS class traitors.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 week ago

yes, they protect capital

[–] ryepunk@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Depends if they just stand there and collect a pay cheque but don't bother anyone, they're fine. But when they're fucking wannabe cops who go out of their way to hassle people and try way to hard to see who's a potential "thief" then definitely a class traitor.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

depends what they're doing.

if they're only going after middle-aged white women driving luxury cars and dudebros in lifted trucks i'm not going to complain.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

I would say yes
