Is the idea that it's a honeypot still being tossed around?
Yep. Closed source and unreviewable.
Oooh, gross. Any other reasons it's fishy? Literally all I've learned about it is from the articles that get posted about why it isn't on Android, and from the comments on those articles. I don't use iOS, but it's still a fascinating story.
Not that I'm aware of but the extreme lack of knowledge regarding Android privacy is enough to set off alarm bills in my head that this is not an application I want to be using. Along with the fact the app is closed source in the developer doesn't want to open source it it makes me just highly suspicious. Gives me the feeling the developers not in this for the right reasons.
Especially when you considering that on iOS to download applications you have to sign into an Apple account so it's tracked that way.
There's no such need to do such a thing on an Android phone so personally I just would not recommend this app. I think the web based Alternatives respect privacy better and have the same functionality.
