Look, I was a big fan of HEIF but these days I just want anything better than PNG and fucking JPEG and GIF.

What's wrong with png?
It produces huge files compared to more modern lossless formats.
Any other format for lossless to recommend?

Yes
It’s very flexible and supports everything:
The only downside is that it’s not supported by a lot of apps and websites (e.g. Instagram)
Heif is fucking gargantuan. Gigabit internet would struggle with a wiki gallery of heif
