It's really just common sense. They're forcing you to do someone's entire job. Do they pay you as a cashier? No! Did they lower the prices? NO, they raised them! So take some self-compensation at the checkout stand.

It's not even difficult enough to be considered a job. I for one love self-checkouts. Much faster, no lines to wait in, no stupid banter about how much the cashier also likes the brand of pudding I'm buying

It depends on how much stuff I'm buying. Buying a bunch of broccoli that I need for dinner? Sure. Buying a week's worth of groceries? Hell no.
