Why is it that so many people go to Thailand out of all the possible Asian countries? What's so special about Thailand? Genuinely curious, I've had many friends and colleagues who went.

EDIT: Any answer that isn't just sex and drugs? I've heard of families going with their kids. What draws them? Is it just low prices?

Safe and cheap, Asian culture, food, scenery and climate.

Other options in the area are less welcoming to tourists.

Thailand is also pretty huge. You can have a vastly different holiday in Phuket, Bangkok or Chian Mai. A friend recently had a 1.5month trip to SEA and ended up spending the entirety just in Thailand since it's so massive

Don't go to Phuket though. I was there last year for the first time in over a decade and it has become a complete nightmare. It's totally overrun and the entire island is basically one big traffic jam.

This is the answer.

What makes you think my kids don't also like sex and drugs?

Clean your rooms really well and we'll go get an ice cream cone, some crack, and a few Thai prostitutes.

According to Wikipedia in Norway ~ 0.4 % of people are Thai not counting those of Thai descent without citizenship. Which makes it a quite large immigrant group.

Maybe it helps to know the demographic of those people. There are certain people who like to go there for certain... reasons.

I've had both colleagues go alone and I've had school mates when I was like 12 that went with their parents. It's a wide demographic.
