If we've learned anything from this, it's that you never, ever, in a million years trust state capitalist institutions, this poor man spent two days in jail and was humiliated (his own words) on the global stage over a fuckin clerical error
Oh boy, imagine when you find out how media works
It would be "capitalist state institutions" and the thing you should learn is to not directly link that asshole's videos
???????? I was literally referring to the Amicus curiae that screwed the man over, so yes my shorthand of "state capitalist institution" is a little more accurate, either way who gives a fuck, everyone fell for it regardless, which is why I linked to penguinz0 who had an outsized impact in popularizing the story and seems to be the only content creator bothering to apologize, I'm not making a value judgement on his dumbass pseudo-libertarian content
Am I outta of pocket or something, why am I getting these snippy-ass replies
Because "state capitalism" is a term that's kind of important for understanding political-economy and doesn't refer to liberal capitalist states.
I think many of us do not have a relation to reactor content mills like pz0 and don't take positions on their dumb clickbait "news" stories.
Which is why he shouldn't be rewarded with more engagement
And yet, like most professions of neutrality, you're still tacitly supporting him by linking to him in the first place! His business model is engagement, what do you think this is?
"state capitalism" ???? Where are you getting this macro-econ terminology from? I'm talking about a shitty Friends of Court org who messed up this man's paperwork and landed him in jail, zoom in brother this shit doesn't require theory
Sorry, you've confused me for somebody who gives a shit about the whole "ethics in online consumption" discourse, I DON'T CARE, he's already a millionaire and watched by millions, might as well whine about people linking the New York Times
Ironically enough, the site usually does encourage people to link to NYT with an archived version or something for exactly that reason.
In this case, would it be an adequate equivalent to use an Invidious or Piped instance to link to the video for discussion while minimizing engagement for the creator to profit from, or should the video be downloaded and uploaded to perhaps a PeerTube instance to further disconnect from the original source? Or is there no value in discussing topics such as this, especially if the topic being discussed is viewed through the lens of liberal content mills and/or cause harm to the defamed victims?
I don't know enough on the topic to distinguish mirrors, but I am pretty sure as concerns the instance rules all of those are fine. In my personal opinion, the answer to your last question is "Yes," but I also realize that arguing such a thing to someone whose attitude is oriented around personal entitlement (such as OP) is a waste of everyone's time. Something something Combat Liberalism.
The fact that they weren't able to sort this out before he was jailed is absolutely fucked
