The House in Fata Morgana! It's my favourite visual novel and frankly favourite novel period. It's a very theatrically-written set of short tragedies that all relate to each other to gradually reveal a supernatural mystery.
that sounds so good. I might just check it out this weekend then
I wanted to ask, do you have like a version preference for this one? I just grabbed the Vita version to be funny.
I personally read it back when the only translated version available was the PC one. The vita one from memory is the base VN + its prequel (A Requiem for Innocence) and sequel (Reincarnation) VNs, the latter of which was added in the Vita version and never got ported to PC due to licensing issues with the VA company. The current console editions (Dreams of the Revenants) apparently have some extra short stories on top of the PS Vita's content but I haven't read them. The PC versions are basically the weakest but I stick to them since they're what I got and I was able to read Reincarnation through a youtube playthrough. Vita is basically the second best just behind Dreams as far as content is concerned since it has the 3 main VNs. Beyond the short stories in Dreams the only stuff you're missing in the Vita version are (I think) the april fools spinoff VN (not worth reading tbh) and a short story that they published online that is an alternate perspective of a very spoilery scene in Requiem (this one is very worth reading and it made me cry, but everything in Fata Morgana made me cry)
Oh and Dreams has redone CGs, they're fine I don't really have a preference. I'm just used to the old ones.
Lookit all this info!!
So does the Vita have the old cg's or new ones?
I did notice that Fata Morgana has a fascinating and curious release history
I like all the version differences, if I end up really liking it I might poke another version for fun tbh.
I believe it's the old ones? And yeah FataMoru's release history is neat. The first Door was actually released years before the rest of the VN as a demo, which is probably why its art was the least polished in the original release.
Oh and the translation took years to finish too, by the time it was done the sequel had already come out. Well worth it though because the translation is incredible and, from what I understand about the original Japanese, frankly better.
Yapping about the translation
They deliberately made the writing more theatrical and archaic compared to the original which was written in very casual modern Japanese for accessibility reasons. The archaicness fits the VN way better imo.Yapping
That's super cool about the translation though, so far (still goofin' with Mell) I do like the style, casual modern any-language would probably be a worse fit.
I was worried it'd be one of those 'every release after the original is successively worse' cases, glad it isn't β¨
I do think Requiem and Reincarnation are weaker than the original, but I think they both add enough to be worthwhile and I really enjoyed them anyways. Requiem in particular is very good. Reincarnation is cute but by its nature it's very different tonally compared to the rest.
