I don't know anything about this lady, but from what I've read, she's not the problem. MrBeast is.

In all seriousness, I never was into Mr. Beasts content, because I'm not a 12 year old. But what really made me despise the guy is when he was talking about how he wanted to watch One Piece but didn't want to waste time watching 1000+ episodes, so he decided to stream himself doing it. Like what type of person are you that you can't enjoy something unless you earn money from it. This "monetize everything" attitude is telling me he is a horrible person to be around. I bet if he's out with friends (if a person like him can even have real friends) he saves all the bills to deduct the whole evening from taxes, because that's essentially what you as a person are to him - business.

he saves all the bills to deduct the whole evening from taxes,

That's not as bad as what I thought you were going to say -- that he'd itemize everything and ask for his friends to send him the money for their part, lol

Yeah the dude always comes off entitled as hell. A few creators I follow have collabed with him and it's always the same story: "He called me and asked for a two month project in two weeks, ofcourse I said yes he's MrBeast."

In a similar vein I've read about people bending backwards for Disney or Pixar, and them abusing their reputation to undercut the market.

There is this thing called NO

[–] kernelle@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I don't know if they can, the opportunity cost is pretty high with these massive channels. Two weeks of grinding might be worth it for them, meanwhile MrBeast himself keeps on repeating this ridiculous notion he's "revealing the true potential" of said creators. Meanwhile he's just exploiting their knowledge and work ethic to grow his own brand.

I couldn't give less of a shit about beast but this take is just patently ridiculous.

If someone asks you to work for exposure, you can say no. If someone asks you to rush something, you can say no.

If you accept a completely optional shitty job because it will get you a lot of clout, I'm sorry but I'm not going to feel even a little bit bad for you.

If people hoe themselves out for opportunity, then I have zero pity for them...

Go do tricks for some rich dude so you can move your career. Don't come to me crying about it jfc

If you don't respect yourself, why should mrbeat.

Have you looked through this guys twitter? It's pathetic and just screams clout chasing reject. Not the first guy mentioned. The FlyDoesYT guy.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Okay, but you have two different people saying it. That makes it a lot more likely to be true, doesn't it?

Edit: make that 11 people per the NYT: https://archive.is/DAfKp

[–] willya@lemmyf.uk 3 points 3 months ago

It does, sure. I just had to point that out after seeing it lol

[–] Drunemeton@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Remember that the Key Point of misinformation is that it doesn’t have to be true, or demonstrably false, or easily proven one way or the other: It has to be First Out the Gate.

That’s to play into what you just said! To make as many people repeat it as quickly as possible so people like you will start to give it weight.

In all matters: Trust, but verify.
