Also, Spitz (a CM at AH) isn't being a jerk. The other images show them having a much better tone than yesterday.

Gotta imagine they were expecting pushback, but probably nowhere near the level we're seeing, so it makes sense to backtrack.

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 48 points 2 months ago

I hope that Sony allows some levity here, the game already can function without linking, as it has been. it would be, development-wise, trivial to reverse it, nothing in the game actually relies upon it.

Sony just has to bite the bullet and do the right thing.

I think the way they had planned on banning players for cheating and potentially unwanted behaviour was through PSN. People are also fairly sure it is a requirement in the contract with Sony that PSN accounts are required. It's just due to server issues from popularity they removed the requirement.

So while it's possible from a technical standpoint, there's some non technical hurdles to overcome as well.

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 8 points 2 months ago

True, they would need to do the work needed to pivot to VAC, so it isn't nothing. We'll have to see how it shakes out.

[-] Zoot@reddthat.com 1 points 2 months ago

See the only part I don't get is, if it was truly mandatory from the get go, why did they sell it in regions not supported by PSN?

[-] SGG@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

From what I have seen, Sony seems to mostly turn a blind eye to people from unsupported regions simply selecting a supported region.

However it is stupid to have made the game available for sale in those unsupported regions, I agree.

I think that it began as a "gentlemen's agreement" of sorts, but now that the game is SUPER POPULAR Sony wants all that juicy PII and that bump in active PSN accounts to appease shareholders.

[-] Zoot@reddthat.com 3 points 2 months ago

All of that sounds so insanely illegal. Selling a game that by all intents and purposes, doesn't work in your region.

[-] Goldmage263@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah, but the legal system lags way behind on tech and data. It lags harder that the original Ubisoft potato servers.

[-] OsaErisXero@kbin.run 23 points 2 months ago

Never expect a japanese megacorp to back down.

[-] TigrisMorte@kbin.social 14 points 2 months ago

Are not PS division of Sony run out of CA in the US? This stinks of US corpo MBA.

[-] OsaErisXero@kbin.run 4 points 2 months ago

Nah, a standard corpo MBA would have rolled out the apology wall by now and reverted the change.

The only way I see this getting better is if Arrowhead sues Sony for intentionally killing the game on PC.

[-] TigrisMorte@kbin.social 2 points 2 months ago

The MBA at the publisher likely still has not gotten the report on the blow back.

Not sure if that last bit is meant as a joke, and while id love to see anything like that happen... I don't think they would stand a chance saying that, considering AH most likely new from the get go that PSN was not going to be optional, and should not have hidden that info away.

Also, what the fuck is up with them selling the game in other countries, if it truly was "mandatory from the get go" thats the part I just don't get.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Yup, I don't think it would be that difficult to have the unique steam id being logged as part of the application, just requires a bit of coordination and cooperation with steam.

This isn't a unique or one off thing other games have done this I'm sure, this is just game publishers once being greedy assholes and wanting more data to exploit.

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Wait, wait, I'm OOTL here. You're telling me that you need a PSN account to play the game on Steam!??!

[-] mp3@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 months ago

Yep, like Ubisoft requiring you to link your Uplay account for some of their games in order to play.

[-] helenslunch@feddit.nl 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

If we've learned anything in recent years about gamers, it's that they will cry and stink and throw up their hands, but at the end of the day they will give the publishers their money anyway, so the publishers will continue to exploit them. Sony knows. They don't care. They already have your money. Valve is not issuing refunds (I tried).

I will bet good money on them not reversing course on this. Not only that, but it will become the norm moving forward for all PS games.

Didn't refund mine 🤷

Nothing in that screen capture indicates it was past the refund period.

[-] Statick@programming.dev 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Open a ticket but don't use the "I want a refund" option. Choose one that will require a human to look at it.

[-] tristan@aussie.zone 8 points 2 months ago

220+ hours of game play is WAY past the refund period of 2 hours

The first time you ask for a refund, the bot with auto decline it based off hours, the second time on it gets a human review. If you keep applying, eventually you'll get someone to approve it, and it'll help if you use the script given in the Twitter thread

[-] Cqrd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

Mine was a day past and they refunded it, but it was only a day so 🤷‍♂️

[-] 11111one11111@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago

Lol the fact they posted that shows why dev teams are not the ones who make that decision. I would take 0% hope and 100% this is going to be used as the dev teams proof they fought against it. There is one and only one way to have any chance to influence shit like this, tanking profit margins. People who make all the money and sit on boards will never hold simultaneously those positions and give a flying fuck what the customer's sentiment on the issue is. Nike didn't get exposed for slave labor on a Tuesday and stop using slave labor by weeks end. Corporations are either forced to make changes by regulatory means that will affect margins or they change when the other factors influence margins but the bottom fucking line is they ain't doing fuckall unless there is a change in margins.

I am guessing that Playstation is currently doing the moderation for HD2. If they move away from a Playstation owned process, that means Arrowhead's cost of ownership goes up. Something probably not in the AH's current budget. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Overall, not a good place to be.

Be fully independent and incur high risk. Be published and mitigate some risk.

[-] jeeva@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

What moderation do you mean?

[-] Umbrias@beehaw.org 1 points 1 month ago

Mitigate some, gain some other, but ultimately there's always risk, sometimes that risk is realized. That's how it works.

[-] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 19 points 2 months ago

I mean I’ve already requested a refund just on principal and don’t plan on picking the game back up until it’s reversed.

I love the game but it isn’t worth making one more account to keep track of imo, especially if literally it’s only purpose is to make it easier to ban me in helldivers. nahhh

[-] Taiatari@lemmynsfw.com 19 points 2 months ago

God I hope they undo it.

[-] Tulitaa@kbin.social 15 points 2 months ago

So I had planned on buying it this weekend but now having second thoughts because of the upcoming requirement. I already have PS Plus but I'm concerned that the player base will tank.

[-] TJDetweiler@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 months ago

I'd hold off on buying until Sony's stance changes.
