Born in Croatia on May 25, 1892 of a native peasant and a Slovene mother.

Kumrovec lies in the Croatian Zagorje and Croatia was still under Austro-Hungarian rule. Broz worked as a mechanic in small workshops. During World War I, he served in the Austro-Hungarian army. He was captured as a prisoner of war and transported to the Russian interior. He joined a Bolshevik group while in prison and after escaping, he joined the Bolshevik Red Guards several months before the October Revolution.

He was registered as a member of the Communist party. Back in Yugoslavia, he continued his revolutionary work as a secretary of a metal union. He was picked up and spent six years in prison. He was released in 1934 and joined the Comintern in Moscow. Visited Moscow several times and was appointed Secretary of Yugoslav Communist Party in 1937. His success was due in part to the internal rivalry of communist leaders. In January 1939, he was officially appointed general secretary of the Yugoslav Communist Party.

After Nazi invasion, set up his Partisans in Southern Serbia in 1941, and led by far the most powerful resistance movement in Europe. By end of the War, Tito’s forces had control of the whole country. Refused to take Stalin’s direction, and was expelled from the Cominform in 1948. Remained leader of the country till his death in 1980.

From then on, Tito had a major voice in all the ensuing phases of the Yugoslav revolution. During World War II, he became commander in chief of the partisan armed forces. In 1943, the Second Session of the Anti-Fascist Council of the National Liberation of Yugoslavia established the second Yugoslavia as a federal socialist republic of six republics. Tito had to make use of all his charisma to convince his comrade-partisans that all peoples of Yugoslavia should be granted equal rights. The partisan struggle ended with a complete victory of the communists. Supported strategically by their allies, both of the West and the East, complying formally with some demands for a multi-party system, Tito could form his first government on March 7, 1945.

More dangerous for Tito’s political career was the clash with the USSR. The Cominform conflict led to a break with Moscow. Tito’s internal power base was threatened as well, and large-scale purges in the party were bitterly needed. Needed also was an alternative ideology. In the beginning of the 1950s self-management was rediscovered in Marx’s writings and step by step introduced in Yugoslavia.

After the fall of hardliner Ranković, economic and political liberalization broke through and this threatened the party monopoly anew. At the same time, on advice of the Slovene Edvard Kardelj, he pushed through constitutional reforms to take the wind out of the sails of nationalism. By granting more autonomy, responsibility and formal self-government to the republics, he hoped to reduce the tensions between the federal units. In the same spirit, he set up a federal presidency structure to ensure the continuity of the system after his death.

In international affairs, Tito profited much from the rivalries of the two blocs during the Cold War. He played a leading role in the movement of the so-called Non-Aligned Countries.

Tito died in May 1980 and the structures set up to ensure continuity functioned more or less satisfactorily for a few years. Then, divergent aspirations could no longer be reconciled and the federal structure exploded.

I've historically done surprisingly well in job interviews considering I have social anxiety and do not prepare for the non-technical portions. Just very good at HR friendly riffs I guess.

watching this police procedural with my mom and feeling conflicted

on one hand, it's about cops and the core cast are "good guys"

on the other hand, it's about an anti-corruption unit and every cop on screen has a 3/4 chance of being part of a massive conspiracy enabling and covering up pedophilia and human trafficking

thonk

Maybe my local university has a janitor who solves harmonic analysis problems position open.

Lol, unironically actually we already have lecturer who does research jobs, why can't I be a cafeteria person who does research. Just teach every grad student a trade and have the whole thing run by part timers who do research.

Saw a guy yesterday on the bus reading The Second Civil War: Arming for Armageddon by Steve Willis and still trying to decide if he was a nazi or a lib or a comrade. The book seems to be a lib take on the racial tensions of the late 60s but I could be misreading based on summaries. But he was specifically reading the chapter on weapons, was looking a little bit tacticool (nothing overbearing) with his clothing choices, and had yellow/gold patches on his bag that appeared to be cyrillic symbols of some sort, but I didn't get a good look.

He didn't seem like a typical chud but that area has a lot of ukrainian immigrants, so in context I had a little azov alarm bell go off in my head. probably didn't help that his head was shaved.

Our whole universe was in a hot, dense state
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started, wait
The earth began to cool, the autotrophs began to drool
Neanderthals developed tools
We built a wall (we built the pyramids)
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries
That all started with the big bang (bang)

Today things have just felt bad. Withdrawal (yet another failed attempt to get clean), went to a place for this event and they got my order wrong, then got it wrong again, so I just gave up. Then I went to this memorial thing for a guy I knew, which wasn't irritating like everything else, but just really sad. I cried.

It's kinda fuckin annoying how tramadol affects my mood, like it craters for 12 hours after I don't take it or makes it better if I do, but I am not just gonna fuckin pop a tram cause I'm moody, I've got a lot more willpower than that.

Also please come at me about how tramadol is either weak baby shit and I should get on real opioids instead, or the scariest hardcore addiction that's gonna leave me homeless and destitute

My bird obsession is starting to take over. I let my window open all night so I could hear the birds and I keep seeing birds and pictures of birds and cartoon birds and hearing people using the phrase "kill two birds with one stone" every where I go. Birds. 🦜🐤🐦🐦‍⬛🦉🕊️🦢🦚🪶

People are always giving bad advice about how to use fragrance, like "one spray on wrists one on the neck" etc. The actual best way to use them is to get one of those little spray bottles that fits in your pocket, always carry it with you, and whenever someone gets close enough to smell you, you just spray it directly into their mouth

Neighbours: "we only let our dog off leash in the backyard"

Their backyard isn't enclosed! And it isn't even true, they have this terribly behaved easily excitable dog, and will open their car door without leashing it and it just dashes out at the nearest person or dog. It doesn't seem aggressive but it's enough to make me panic, and that may escalate. Why are people like this? Jusr leash your dog!!

surprisingly simple but arcane process to get the creation kit to play nice with MO2, you have to manually load archives of official content to the ini, change several other lines, and then ignore 200 error messages to get into a mod with a few dependencies... to then make a single edit to fix a quest meow-floppy it worked though lol

Bout to go take a drug test (urinalysis) for my new job. I haven't smoked weed in about a month, so hopefully it'll go okay. I live in a recreational state, so it's dumb that they test for marijuana.
