Me watching a video about dishwasher pod inefficiencies:

[–] Euphorazine@lemmy.world 71 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Wait until you get to the inner working of a pinball machine or jukebox!

[–] Dasnap@lemmy.world 51 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Soz too busy watching how lava lamps function.

[–] pseudonym@monyet.cc 30 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I'm still on Christmas lights

For anyone out of the loop and looking to lose many hours learning

https://www.youtube.com/c/TechnologyConnections/videos

... and now I know a lot more about automatic windshield wipers

[–] Solemn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 5 months ago

I enjoyed how everyone in the comment thread already knew. Technology Connections is a real treasure.

[–] Xbeam@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure the list of episodes on Christmas lights is never ending.

[–] spicytuna62@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Can't do the Christmas lights, I'm too busy hating my toaster.

[–] Martineski@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 months ago

Fun fact: If you bury lava lamp underground it will become a magma lamp.

[–] morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 5 months ago

And the yearly Christmas lights video :D

Not gonna lie very few teachers from my experience have the charisma in their teaching that an experienced Podcaster has on a topic.

I've had a couple for sure who I could listen for hours teach.

But many would just rattle off facts endlessly and wouldn't really engage.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 64 points 5 months ago (1 children)

to be fair, a podcaster only has to engage in the topic once, imagine repeating the same thing for years 6h+ every day

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 78 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Also, a live performance in front of a hostile audience has special challenges.

[–] pseudonym@monyet.cc 37 points 5 months ago (1 children)

And a podcast listener has chosen to listen

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 9 points 5 months ago

And is either travelling somewhere or very comfortable with snacks and drinks at hand

[–] msage@programming.dev 3 points 5 months ago

For very little money

[–] Yondoza@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

This is what has not been leveraged by almost any learning institution! The people that are explaining a concept to students for the first time and people who are good at answering questions while the student is practicing/digesting the information do not need to be the same people! This is how you increase the efficiency of education, you specialize roles.

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 28 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Anyone got a link to the dolphin social hierarchies episode?

[–] teegus@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 months ago

They do discuss it briefly in No such thing as a fish ep. 43.

[–] smort@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

I’ve recently started listening to “Ologies”, and she has a 2-part series

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 25 points 5 months ago

Yeah but you chose to watch that podcast, you didn't have a choice on what you learned in school.

[–] morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 5 months ago (3 children)

me_irl, whenever Hbomberguy or Jenny Nicholson publish a video essay about someone or something I had never heard of

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 10 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I loooooove the meltdown the Star Wars: Galactic Cruiser twitter/subreddit had after Jenny's "Star Wars Hotel" video, especially the segment where she predicted every type of comment she was going to get (and she was 100% bang on). It was the first or second time since the blackout that I had actually spent more than a minute on Reddit scanning for the answer of my Google query.

Thank you for spending $6000USD and suffering for our entertainment, Jenny o7

[–] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Holy shit it's still going on

Someone called Jenny's content brand as "extremely mean spirited"

What the fuck

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

It's soooo funny, and really exposes how much of the social media landscape is people discussing content they never interact with or attempt to consume, even within their own niche. 5 seconds of scrolling through Jenny's Youtube feed could tell you exactly how "mean spirited" she is.

The Disney parks subreddit was much more level headed discussing her video's criticisms, which surprised me.

[–] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Literally claimed to watch her content and thinks she makes bad faith arguments when called out

It's funny as fuck tbh

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 months ago

Oooh, I wonder if it's the dregs of those weirdos that harassed her for saying that The Last Jedi "was ok" (which it honestly, it would be if it was a regular space heist movie or something. It's just a god-awful Star Wars movie specifically).

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Reading that subreddit has been my husband's latest pastime, he loves reading people be angry for some reason, and I guess the battlenet forums weren't amusing enough anymore!

I just feel so bad for Jenny, who was so clearly trying to hard to make things work and at every turn Disney was just "fuck yooouuuuu"

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

WAIT the battle.net forums are still up???

Thank you so much for this revelation, I know EXACTLY how I'm spending my Friday (reading posts coping about Blizzard's p2w meta). Your husband and I are cut from the same cloth.

[–] Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 months ago

Hbomberguy is so good. I've seen his oof video 3 times and just started my third re-watch of his plagiarism video. I was browsing through his older videos and saw that he had an older plagiarism video as wellnot as long and worth the watch too.

[–] YaksDC@lemm.ee 3 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Thank you for turning me on to a new deep dive YouTuber. I love Jenny Nicoleson, I have high hopes for Hbomberguy.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Oooooh boy, you're in for something. Amazing guy. I rewatch his Pathologic video bimonthly

[–] YaksDC@lemm.ee 2 points 5 months ago

Can't wait. ☺

[–] morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I discovered Jenny's channel last week and I am 4 videos in, the 4 hour Star Wars hotel video was a work of art

[–] veroxii@aussie.zone 4 points 5 months ago

I really liked the Bronies one.

[–] smort@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

The ‘church musical extended universe’ one is top notch in my book

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Me, amazed by the Antikythera Mechanism, and the modern day reconstructions of it. But I look up in the night sky, and either I can't see shit, or whatever few stars/planets I see, I have no fucking clue what I'm looking at LOL!

[–] martinb@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

There's a few apps for that which can help get you started. Doesn't help too much with light pollution though

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Very true that. In one direction, we have a large construction company that runs 24/7, and in the other direction, there's a number of casinos.

So yeah, light pollution hits hard in my area ☹️

Well, this is the difference between doing something voluntarily and compulsorily.

[–] cheddar@programming.dev 4 points 5 months ago

Haha, this is so accurate.

[–] humbletightband@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

They give you the first dose for free
