A wizard never falls. He departs the stage precisely as he means to.

[–] too_high_for_this@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

He'll be back on stage at the turn of the tide.

Well that obviously isn’t true. He fell with Durin’s Bane. Are you telling me he purposely let the balrog wrap his whip around him? ;)

Gotta hoard all the xp to level up to white.

I know he’s older but I’m not ready for Gandalf/Magneto to depart from us. Hope Sir Ian gets well soon

Oh no... Hoping for the best for McKellen, but I understand the severity of this due to his advanced age.

He truly has always seemed like a genuinely good chap and was pretty open about his sexuality when it was still pretty scary to do so, even though he seems to regret not coming out sooner.

So, here's hoping for, well, whatever good news there can be at this age.

A theatre spokesman said later that he was in "good spirits" and expected to "make a speedy and full recovery".

He is expected to be back on stage next Wednesday for a matinee performance of the play.

Well thats something

At about half his age and based on my recent recovery speed experience, I predict that if I were to fall off stage now, it would take me two years to have full recovery.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 38 points 5 months ago (1 children)

And he returned to the stage as Falstaff the White.

[–] HonkTonkWoman@lemm.ee 7 points 5 months ago

I was about to suggest a Balrog broke his fall…

[–] Please_Do_Not@lemm.ee 37 points 5 months ago

For those concerned and yet to click the link: he's expected to be back on stage by Wednesday and has received scans, so it appears to be no major concern, though of course not quite minor either.

[–] thoughtfuldragon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 5 months ago

That's not what they mean by "break a leg". He should know that by now.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

I really hope he got out a "Fly, you fools!"

[–] CobblerScholar@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

Fell off the stage during a fight scene at 85. What a mensch

[–] Balthazar@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

The stage is more dangerous than the Bridge of Khazad-dûm!

(Best wishes for a swift recovery, Sir Ian!)
