The 64GB and 512GB Steam Deck LCD models are being phased out, and will only be available while supplies last.

64GB LCD is $296.65.

512GB LCD is $381.65.

If you're even a little technically inclined the 64GB model and a 1TB SSD can be cheaper than the 512GB model.

Indeed, but you miss out on the etched glass if you're into that.

[–] rotopenguin@infosec.pub 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

You should be covering up the etched glass with a screen protector.

[–] Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Not necessarily.

I don’t even use a screen protector on my phone

[–] arefx@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Same and it's fine lol. I haven't needed one since like 2015 as long as your phone has good glass

[–] Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Probably true, but having a screen protector really doesn’t bother me in any way and can potentially save my phone/steamdeck from my own clumsiness.

[–] arefx@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Ain't nothing wrong with that either. I think k at this point u less you have a product with cheap glass it's just up to personal preference.

I still use a screen protector on my smart watch because I do manual labor and am constantly hitting it on things like tools, nails, etc.

Never have, I travel a lot and always carry my Deck, not a scratch on it.

Fact that it makes the 512 LCD cheaper than the 256 LCD is pretty hilarious, even if it is a "these models are discontinued, clearing out the stock" sale

[–] TheHobbyist@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm surprised, if I recall, all but one LCD model were to be phased out in November, or at least that's what they said when they announced the OLED version. Were the supplies that large?

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I can see supplies extending longer than they thought with their refurbishing program being as popular as it is (they don't stay in stock very long)

[–] jwiggler@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

My OLED is coming in today, so hyped. Will definitely help with the commute. First off is finishing up Disco Elysium, then maybe playing Edith Finch? Anyone have any other recs? Besides Hades 1, I guess.

[–] Shatur@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I play Stardew Valley on mine :)

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I cannot get into disco elysium no matter how hard I try

[–] jwiggler@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It took me a bunch of tries, too. It's not really a "fun" game, more like a visual and interactive novel. Once I got the hang of the dice rolls being the biggest part of the game, and knowing/remembering where to seek them out, and getting used to the map, it became easy to pick up and put back down. It's amazing, but not easy to get going.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What genre? Those are some peculiar games. I guess you might like Strange Horticulture.

Otherwise for a mix bag: TPS/Adventure: Horizon Zero Dawn Arcade racing: Hot Wheels Unleashed TPG: Baldur's Gate 3 FPS: Halo Master Chief Collection

[–] jwiggler@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks, I'll check out strange horticulture. I'm looking for arthouse games in a sense. Outer Wilds completely changed me, for example, and I want to try to recreate that feeling, but I don't want an Outer Wilds clone, like how Lords of the Fallen is to Dark Souls.

I want something that's going to destroy me and make me think, or just be ultra fun and different from anything else I've played.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago

For something different you can try The Room games. Definitely not life changing but atypical.

[–] dustyData@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Awesome, Valve still won't take my money even at full price.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Pay me and I'll buy and ship it to you.

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] rotopenguin@infosec.pub 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I presume that dusty is mad about being in a country that Valve won't ship to. It's a perfectly fair gripe.

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That makes sense, if that's what he was saying.

[–] arefx@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

It's precisely what they are saying, they should be upvoted lol
