/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Dig Dug is an interesting thought (great Commadore64 oldie as well), though not where that quote game from.

It's from the greatest game ever made: Lords of the Realm II

Can't believe this line is the only reason I'm aware of red alert

[–] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago (3 children)
[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 months ago (4 children)

I saw some people in the thread mention they're only aware of Red Alert due to the memes. Which is a tragedy, because Hell March kicks so much more ass than it had any right to for a random 90s video game track.

Here it is for anyone that needs some bad assery added to their day. https://youtu.be/e3YzmjmAGoI

Frank Klepaki is amazing! He formed a group called Frank Klepaki & The Tiberian Sons for a best of album.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

it played during installation, didn't it? what a way to build up hype. ah the ancient times when EA games had soul.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Was that EA? I remember Westwood Studios, but not EA.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Westwood is correct, i misremembered. EA didn't take over Westwood until Tiberian Sun, which another one I enjoyed a lot. Still, EA wasn't complete dogshit back then.

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Oh man, that takes me back. Thanks for the nostalgia kick

[–] Cypher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Absolutely one of the greatest songs in gaming history.

[–] the_dopamine_fiend@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Lieutenant Klepacki, report to the bridge.

[–] pleb_maximus@feddit.de 4 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Wasn't that Command & Conquer (which later got the "Tiberian Dawn" part added to its title)?

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Indeed.

Also come over to .org since .de is dead :)

[–] pleb_maximus@feddit.de 1 points 3 months ago (4 children)

Good musical piece either way.

Also no, I won't.

C&C was the original, Tiberian wars and Dawn were sequels

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Dawn is the original CnC. Then came Tiberian Sun and Tiberian Wars, sadly they stopped developing the Tiberian series as in no other game came afterwards. Probably for the best.

Then on the other hand we have Red Alert, Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 3. Kinda uninspired imho :)

[–] systemglitch@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I just finished a round of Red Alert Remastered. Fun game. I was real good at the game nearly 30 years ago. Got in the top 10 on a 1v1 ladder on some now forgotten site.

[–] nevetsg@aussie.zone 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I bought StarCraft remastered today because I had an itch for RTS. Just 3 rounds into the single player and nostalgia is making me so happy.

Maybe I get the C&C collection next...

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Get it, but also get the free version OpenRA.

They have taken the classic game and made it work on modern computers, they have plenty of online servers you can play on, and the controls are more modern than the original C&C games, left click to select, right click to command.

[–] nevetsg@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is awesome! After StarCraft I can harvest some spice and make sure a worm doesn't get my harvester.

Just mass produce a bunch of Tanya's and send them into the enemy buildings.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Their weakness is power, black out their base and nothing can stop you. Good luck

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 2 points 3 months ago

That really took a soviet genius to not protect a whole base side and let the powerplants be overly exposed.

Oi! Oi! Oi!

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 months ago

This reminds me of when I'd have my devs play Artemis as a "team build exercise" and totally not as an excuse to Star Trek LARP at work.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 3 months ago

I remember playing this on the PS1 against my friend. I had it on PC as well as Tiberian Sun but it was a PITA to try and do anything with any speed or precision using a PS1 controller lol
