Sounds like the pro-democracy call would be to call in seal team 6 to kill four supreme Court justices and then replace them before the elections in November.

And then if Congress refuses to nominate your justices then you kill the Congress members that vote against you.

And you just keep killing and killing and killing until things are right again.

[–] darvocet@infosec.pub 31 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Don’t forget the killing.

[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 12 points 4 months ago

Oh, right. Good catch, I almost forgot!

[–] GoTeamBoobies@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

For Managed Democracy!

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's never going to happen.

[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And that's a good thing. I don't want the killing to start because who is to say it will ever end?

[–] Lost_Faith@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

I'm sure the reason scotus passed this is because they know the dems wont take advantage of it, If they thought the dems would make use of the powers they would have used another delay tactic

[–] Colour_me_triggered@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

Not enough bullets.

[–] Darkard@lemmy.world 60 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's this the same group that were screaming about "setting a precedent" when trump was going to court because "oooOOOooooh we might do your guy now".

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 73 points 4 months ago

To sum up: The GOP and its SCOTUS are all actively trying to overthrow democracy in the wake of an actual coup attempt, and a party called Democrats are now legally permitted to have them shot (and absolutely will not do that). Further, the current president is being rubbished by a corporate press so hungry for ad revenue that they prefer bad presidents.

A sad finale, played off key on a broken down saloon piano on the outskirts of a forgotten ghost town. I shall never cross its threshold again in my lifetime.

Basic human decency is a debilitating handicap in US politics.

[–] Zipitydew@sh.itjust.works 24 points 4 months ago

It is against any authoritarians. The only thing they understand is getting their ass kicked. Everything else is a game in which they intend to always come out on top by any means.

So, which nation will bring the seeds of democracy to this ailing regime's populace? How about you, Iraq, for old times sake?

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Britain is still here. It's not too late to surrender.

[–] Darkard@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Make America Great Britain Again!

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

"No Kings of America" Not for long 😎🇬🇧

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

Ive seen their government. I'll pass. Annexation by Canada would be ok though.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Unfortunately, the apple didn't fall far from the tree and their government is not so great, either.

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I'll try and fix that on Thursday.

[–] EunieIsTheBus@feddit.de 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I don't know. Doesn't someone need to find oil under the white house first?

[–] Lost_Faith@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

There is lots of oil under the US

[–] Colour_me_triggered@lemm.ee 37 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Correct me if my European brain can't comprehend this, but isn't the whole point of the 2nd amendment to prevent the rise of tyranny?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yes, but the wrong group is clinging to guns.

Democrats act all high-mined in their rejection of political violence and distaste for guns, but in opposing gun ownership they've allowed their opposition that's just fine with political violence to own all the guns.

[–] Colour_me_triggered@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Well obviously a pitched battle against the maga folk isn't going to go well, but I'm sure there's a way to get to their god-emperor. Does the 2nd amendment also cover IEDs?

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Destructive devices yes, most are legal you just gotta be permitted and register everything.

It's almost time to kill Nazis again.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Partially, but that was before the US government controlled the most powerful military in the world. The idea that whatever weapons civilians could get their hands on would be able to overpower the military is laughable.

[–] rambling_lunatic@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)
  1. The military depends on a supply chain. A general strike will cripple it within weeks.
  2. The US Army is very strong against other conventional armies, but has proven to be awful at unconventional warfare.
  3. The greatest strength of the US Army is its arsenal of bombs and the powerful deterrent of the atom bomb. If the US army bombs US territory, then it is bombing itself. A general strike is unnecessary if the factory is gone. At that point the Civil War will become a war of attrition, and autonomous insurgent cells have an inherent advantage in those.
  4. I expect at least a decent number of soldiers to mutiny or desert.
[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I hope we don't have to find out.

[–] rambling_lunatic@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Me neither. Too much fallout (potentially literal fallout) for the rest of us, plus inevitable piles of corpses in the former USA.

[–] Badeendje@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago

So keeping files is not a presidents act. And Georgia also not.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

So, how bad would it be if Biden took up on this claim and assassinated Trump using these supposed laws?

Would the laws be counted as illegal, and Biden sent to jail?

Do you think you Americans would get a non-geriatric candidate to vote on?

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)
  1. He would probably be impeached and removed, also barred from office.
  2. Whoever actually pulled the trigger/killed Trump is likely facing murder charges.
  3. Biden may be immune for the order criminally.
[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Biden may be immune for the order criminally.

Not a chance. The SCOTUS decides what is and isn't "official," and 6 of them would determine that this was "not official."
