It’s disgusting cops are victim blaming a literal 6th grader for being preyed on, but not at all surprising unfortunately.

This is standard. I know of a minor who was groomed, and he was told repeatedly that he could be charged with creating child pornography. Don't let the Columbus PD fool you: this is how they all behave.

The departmental issue is they got caught on video.

That’s what the chief is “disappointed in” and insists “doesn’t reflect the department”…

[–] hypelightfly@kbin.social 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"This doesn't reflect the department, usually we don't get caught."

[–] snooggums@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

"We don't really look in the mirror and reflect on our behavior because that would make us feel bad."

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

The usual, sorry I got caught

The problem to them is not that they said what they said .... the problem to them is that they got caught saying it.

It's the same thing they did to my sister when she was 19. A guy in our city found her online and began stalking her everywhere. He would harass her and send her disgusting things even though she had never met or talked to the guy before.

When we called the police and had one come to the house to file a report, the cop was just blaming my sister. He was acting like he couldn't imagine a boy would do these things if my sister didn't lead him on.

A few years later the guy sent a underage girl from my school his dick pic. She showed it to me because she was disgusted and both amused at how pathetic it looked. It was sadly not the last time I've seen his dick pic.

Now the fucker has a YouTube documentary about how pathetic he is and it's at over 500k views.

I had completely forgotten to link to it lmfao.

I have no idea how he even found my sister. Houston is a large city and he somehow picked her a decade ago to torment.

He tells the officers his daughter is already asleep, and that he had hoped they could help talk to her about the seriousness of the situation. The female officer quickly tells him that his daughter could be charged with creating sexually explicit content.

The father protests and says that she is a child who was manipulated by an adult, according to the police report and the father’s TikTok video. The officer asks him if she was taking pictures, and the father ends the conversation.

In audio of the body camera footage, the female officer can be heard asserting again as she walks away from the house, “She’s taking pictures of herself naked. She’s creating child porn.”

This is the same fucking logic groomers use...

Once they get anything they shouldn't have, they blame the victim and blackmail them into more and more stuff.

Even if they do t get anything more, the child would be less likely to tell anyone.

It's fucking insane that the issue isn't these cops, the actual law is set up like this, and there's no way to know how often it prevents report.

Well you see tracking down sex offenders is difficult. But persecuting under aged girls is much easier, so the police took that route. (I wish I was joking. But police are unbelievably bad at catching criminals)

https://ualr.edu/socialchange/2021/03/31/the-injustice-of-americas-rape-kit-backlog/#:~:text=It%20is%20estimated%20that%20there,a%20day%2C%20or%20a%20month%E2%80%A6

The police can't even be bothered to process rape kits so states just ban abortion to solve the rape problem in America.

Standard same old cop bullshit. They are too lazy to look for the actual bad guy so they try to make the victim (hey she's right here already!) into a criminal they can charge with some crime, so they can pat themselves on the back as the great Heroes of the community.

[–] Clent@lemmy.world 52 points 1 year ago

All I hear is, "I'm sorry and concerned a recording of my fellow officers went viral"

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 50 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Resigns? Fired?

There's no excuse for this.

FWIW, I have never met an intelligent cop or detective. I have met some remarkably unintelligent cops and detectives.

It’s rather shocking that the next step in the criminal justice system requires 7 years of education and the ability to pass a bar exam, but police officers range from dolt to average in intelligence, and are often loosed on the streets with months of training.

This is no way to run a criminal justice system.

[–] reverendsteveii@lemm.ee 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You've never met an intelligent cop because the cops have a maximum IQ above which applicants are disqualified

And, those dummy-to-mediocre cops compose the pool from which detectives are promoted.

Bryant concluded her statement by saying: "As I have said from the first day on the job — when our officers do the right thing, we will have their back. When they don't, we will hold them accountable."

Ok, Chief Bryant, we're waiting!

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I wanna see the body cam video and hear what those dirt bags were saying to each other once they got back in their cruiser.

[–] bobman@unilem.org 10 points 1 year ago

Cops only exist to serve the ruling class.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Anyone got the actual video?

[–] FUCKRedditMods@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

some prosecutor please charge Reddit and the Associated Press with Aggravated Abuse of Eyeballs and the Internet

[–] geosoco@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)
[–] bobman@unilem.org -1 points 1 year ago

Crazy how 99% of news stories reporting on videos don't share the original source.

Modern "journalism", everybody.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

I feel like an apology isn't quite as impactful as arresting the police officers who bullied a child rape victim....

[–] Ransom@lemmy.one 8 points 1 year ago

When I hear that one of these good apples has fallen in the line of duty, I say a prayer of thanks.

Shameful. Absolutely shameful.
