As in, what region is where every characteristic of the country is played up as much as possible, like a microcosm of the whole nation?

Queensland.

Australia's petridish of stereotypes ranging from gap-toothed Dundee wannabees, sun-burnt tourists, an ulcer of a beach-resort capital, and a baked-in inferiority complex.

Wait, I think that's closer to Florida...

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I feel like Florida and Queensland have a lot in common. We don't have as many states though, so there's bound to be some blending.

Hasn't NSW taken the backwards crown over the last decade?

Alberta.

The parallels are kind of staggering actually.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We're closer politically aligned to Utah if you really dig into it.

[–] photonic_sorcerer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Nobody outside of north America knows what a Utah is.

Oh im sure there have been plenty of Mormom missionaries that have described it to people in numerous countries while on mission.

I think you need to drink cranberry juice to make it better

Oil, cowboy cosplay, jacked up trucks, dumb as hell and determined to be dumber, yea there's a reason I've heard it called north texas

[–] PowerCrazy@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is the only valid Texas comparison. All the rest of the comparisons have basically zero cultural parallels and are just ignorant stereotypes.

Tbf i mean more what regions are microcosms of the entire nation but I do feel like Alberta has the most mounties per capita

I heard Munich is the equivalent. As I am not involved in any politic topic, I can only give that.

[–] Atemu@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well, bavaria as a whole really.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

That was morning brain.
Yes, that's what I actually meant.

Well Munich is a city and not a state, so hard to compare to Texas. However the state of which it is the capital (Bavaria) can in many ways be compared to Texas as it is rather conservative and rural in many parts.

That said Munich itself is actually quite progressive and open.

Case in point regarding politics: On a local level the major has almost always been from the SPD (social democrats, the last conservative one was in the early 80s), and in the last federal election the green party actually got the most votes (compared to the overall result for Bavaria where the conservative CSU won with a wide margin)

Fail on my side. Brain wasnt awake.
Meant bavaria.

Nuevo LeΓ³n, specifically Monterrey, MΓ©xico. It's basically like Texas, and they are aamof very close to actual Texas. They have this hyperindustrialist mindset. The state wanted BAD to be the place that hosts the next Tesla manufacturing plant, even when they struggle periodically for water.

EDIT: And they got their Tesla business.

[–] Lewistrick@feddit.nl 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Either Urk or Staphorst. The Netherlands.

[–] hellweaver666@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 11 months ago

Urk has such a reputation! I’m an expat and even I know of it!

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Humourless gits who hate any vague criticism of the area, think they ae better than anyone else and should be an independent country? Sounds about right.

[–] hellweaver666@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 11 months ago

I would have said Birmingham area myself. Doesn’t help that the accent makes them all sound thick as shit.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Cornwall maybe?

Podlasie, Poland

[–] jbrains@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

SkΓ₯ne. Not my country, but I feel confident in citing it.

Check it out, Sandy! We got square dancing, giant Barbecues, homemade peas-in-a-can pie, and we got our very own 10 gallon hats!

[–] WndyLady@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Wish I was back in Texas. The ocean's no place for a squirrel.

[–] averagedrunk@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago
