The Carter Center has just denounced the election results in Venezuela 🇻🇪. But we must remember that it is far from a neutral organization. Consider:

1. It is based in Washington DC, and is directly funded by the State Department and USAID (as well as by the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar).

2. It is staffed by former US state officials, and by anti-Venezuelan government hardliners. (It's former Americas Director, Jennifer McCoy, for instance, compared Hugo Chavez to Donald Trump, and said he was as much of a dictator as Pedro Carmona (the oligarch who came to power for two days during the 2002 coup).

3. The Carter Center has consistently refused to even acknowledge, let alone analyze, United States interference in Venezuelan politics. (The words "United States" appear only two times in the last eight years of its published reports on Venezuela).

4. It has, in the past, presented data about elections and media in Venezuela in a wildly distorted manner.
