Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

Well, Iran and their allies' response may happen sometime this week and apparently they aren't talking to the US in order to negotiate how and where they will hit Israel (and Shoigu arrived in Tehran rather auspiciously), the Bangladeshi government just fell, F16s have been given to Ukraine, there are fascist riots in the UK, and Japan just had its worst stock fall since 1987 and seems to be taking several other countries/corporations with it. I don't really know where to look right now.

The COTW (Country of the Week) label is designed to spur discussion and debate about a specific country every week in order to help the community gain greater understanding of the domestic situation of often-understudied nations. If you've wanted to talk about the country or share your experiences, but have never found a relevant place to do so, now is your chance! However, don't worry - this is still a general news megathread where you can post about ongoing events from any country.

The Country of the Week is Iraq! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said his party will send a letter to the United Nations calling for a probe into the "genocide" carried out by the Awami League government and forces on protesters "prior to the victory" on August 5.

Maybe he should take a good look in the mirror. 'Genocide' my ass, it was just regular state repression, he is devaluing the word. There is a whole Wiki article dedicated to military coups in Bangladesh.

help my country lacks the means of production to engage in warfare and our military industry just bought a ~~munitions factory~~ engineering firm thousands of miles away in a country currently arguing to the UN that we are engaged in genocide, someone please help me budget for proxy wars in ukraine

PARIS – Germany’s Rheinmetall is boosting its plant-engineering business to meet growing demand for ammunition factories, with an agreement to buy a majority stake in the South African engineering firm Resonant Holdings for an undisclosed price.

Rheinmetall will own 51% of a new joint venture, with current Resonant shareholders holding the remainder, the defense company said in a statement late Friday. Resonant employs around 150 people and will add expertise in building chemical and explosives plants, with annual sales potential for the new company of more than €100 million (U.S. $109 million), Rheinmetall said.

edit: not a munitions factory, an engineering firm... made this post while some dicknose was shouting at me over the phone because I love my job

Venezuela's post-electoral tensions have also spilled beyond its borders, w/ the leftist Brazil+Colombia+Mexico governments allegedly assuming a mediation role. Lula's foreign policy strongman Celso Amorim said the delay in the publication of results is "regrettable" but that he doesn't trust the parallel tallies published by the opposition

In an interview with Globo, Celso Amorim, Chief Advisor to the Brazilian President on Foreign Relations, said "I don't trust the ballot information supplied by the Venezuelan opposition."

Supreme Court hearings continue this morning, with candidates and party representatives answering questions and submitting eventual evidence of the recent electoral process. It has declared a 15-day process.

Senegalese president proves to be neocolonial stooge:
https://xcancel.com/african_stream/status/1820434160428655073

SENEGALESE PAN-AFRICANISTS DEMAND FRENCH MILITARY EXPULSION

Senegalese organisers from dozens of Pan-African groups demanded that newly elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expel the French military from Senegalese soil.

A few days later, on 14 July, Diomaye Faye said to the media, ‘I do not think there is any need today, whoever the partner may be, to go in the direction of brutal ruptures.’ This is a significant blow for Pan-Africanists and Diomaye Faye’s young working-class base.

While there was initially much hope that the new president would join his revolutionary neighbours’ Alliance of Sahel States (AES) confederation, Diomaye Faye instead visited the conservative neo-colonial governments of Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Ghana to meet their presidents in his first few months in office. Then, the 44-year-old’s first visit outside the African continent occurred in Paris, where he met with French President Emmanuel Macron.

When Diomaye Faye finally made his way to Burkina Faso, he asked President Ibrahim Traoré to abandon the AES project and rejoin the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The organisations behind this recent memorandum addressed to Diomaye Faye include Urgences Panafricanistes (@urgences_panafricanistes), Africa First, Jif’Afrik (@jifafrik), La Ligue Panafricaine Umoja (@liguepanafricaineumoja), Sénégal Notre Priorité (@senegalnotrepriorite) and others.

I'm surprised that Walz got the nod. I really thought it was going to Shapiro to reassure AIPAC and the Israel lobby that Kamala wasn't got to rock the boat on that front (the same reason that Biden was picked in '08). It doesn't mean that she's changing anything about the Biden policy, I am sure some zionists are freaking out regardless.

Russia Launches Anti-terrorist Measures in Three Regions Under Ukrainian Attack

These measures are enacted to protect citizens and prevent potential terrorist acts. On Saturday, the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) initiated a counterterrorism operation (CTO) regime across the Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions in response to recent security threats.

Article

The move comes after a Ukrainian attack in the Kursk region, which has resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.

The NAC emphasized that the CTO’s legal framework includes the implementation of necessary measures and temporary restrictions under Article 11 of the Federal Law “On Combating Terrorism.”

These measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of the population, maintaining public order, and enhancing the protection of critical infrastructure.

The text reads, “Chebekino, Belgorod region, Russia. A Ukrainian drone deliberately attacks a civilian building and enters an apartment with an open window. The 75-year-old woman who lived there died in the explosion.” Meanwhile, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko informed that twelve people are in critical condition following a large-scale Ukrainian assault on Russia’s Kursk region that began on Tuesday.

“55 people, including 8 children, are receiving inpatient treatment following shelling by Ukraine in the Kursk region,” he said and mentioned that 20 victims, including 2 children received outpatient care, adding that medical teams continued to work in the region and all victims were receiving the necessary medical assistance.

Russia declared a state of emergency in the Kursk region due to the tense situation there. The Defense Ministry said that a military operation to defeat the Ukrainian forces in Kursk was ongoing. The Ukrainian side lost 945 troops and 102 military vehicles since the start of the incursion.
