...OR I will refer to records as "vinyl CDs" like I did last time.

You have been warned.

Don't test me; I will do it!

Current games I have on my sights are:

The original Deus Ex

Ib

Infinity Nikki

Remnant II

Silent Hill II (through emulation)

Dragon's Dogma II

Slay the Princess

ELEX and ELEX 2

Dread Delusion

Daggerfall

Morrowind

Hylics 1 and 2

RuneScape 3 (not RuneScape Classic... I know, I know, don't hurt me!)

Currently playing:

Elden Ring (finishing it)

OMORI (slowly taking my time in finishing it)

Fallout 76 (much better than what it was at launch; if anyone wants to play with me, they may ask me)

Recently finished:

Disco Elysium

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (y'all should play both Pathfinder CRPG games)

Love:

CRPGs

MMORPGs (yes, even now)

Open-world games (...yes, even with the over-saturation)

Decision-making

Stealth games

Pacifist runs

Minor horror elements? Eh, idk, nothing, like, over-bearing, ig

Macabre horror (basically, horror that isn't horror; just has the aesthetic)

3D platformers (like Super fucking Mario; you know, the Italian-American voiced by Chris Pratt)

Mods, mods, mods

Not too fucking long; let me finish a game when I want to easily (so, basically, not, like, Persona 5-levels of long, idk)

Anything like Majora's Mask

"Nautical games" (Wind Waker, Dredge, etc.)

"Classic games" (basically, games through emulation)

VR games, oddly enough

"Cozy games"

"girl games" shovel-ware (basically, the precursor to "cozy games"; the type of shit you found on the Nintendo Wii)

Interactivity outside of the actual game (I don't know much about Pokemon Go... but what I do know is Pokemon Go to the polls)

Dungeon crawlers (think: King's Field)

Music with lyrics, idk (I don't know much about Quavo... but what I do know is Quavo go to the polls)

Good music. Banger music, even.

No loading screens; seriously, let me start up a game and just play. I feel like starting up a game nowadays is sometimes a whole process.

Non-Western games (...Eh, tbh, I don't really have a bias, I'm just sort-of interested in how they're developing and what they have to bring... SO think: Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Indian, African, Latin American, etc.)

Nintendo games...

...or anything LIKE a Nintendo game (with wacky gameplay, idk)

Autistic games... Okay, so far, I think OMORI is, like, the only "Autistic game" out there, but surprise me.

LGBTQIA+ games

BIPOC character games

... okay, that's all, you don't even have to follow these requirements at all; hell, be a little creative and use your own insight.

Okay... now...

...SHOOT!

(No, wait, put the gun away!)

There's Celeste 64, if you haven't tried it (it's free).

Damn, you even quoted me making a "Chris Pratt as Super Mario" joke!

(But thanks!)

Wrath of the Righteous was one of the best CRPGs I've ever played. Would recommend that. I'm playing Owlcat's followup right now: Rogue Trader, and loving it even more actually, but will save final verdict for when I finish it.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I loved both Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous especially.

I can't wait to play the Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader CRPG they made next; I still have yet to play that one.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Rogue Trader is good for me, but there's buts. On the one hand, it's probably best representation of 40k universe ever made in game, and the story is aslo actually quite good, just as characters (unlike Wrath of the Righteous where it was probably the chief reason for me to drop it, i didn't found literally anyone interesting).
But on the other there's still shitton of bugs and bad design choices, and classes for combat is probably the worst i ever seen in an cRPG, almost every single class is a fucking chore to use in combat because you need to set up elaborate, often multi turn combos, buildups and setups in every single random combat, which goes old very very fast. And they even harshly nerfed the only class where it wasn't necessary (i mean you needed some setup too, but you could do it in few clicks instead of few minutes). Also it's of course pathfinder, the most overcook rpg system ever. And you can't even respec party characters without toolbox mod, seriously full respeccing of even class in Baldur 3 is such a fucking great idea i wonder why nobody else had it in the last 3 decades.

Overall, very recommended, but you might want to skim over combat or mod it.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

"shitton of bugs and design choices" I can wait those out, I think.

And yeah, mods may come in handy here.

Mutant: Year Zero has elements of CRPGs, tactical RPGs, and stealth 'em ups

Atom RPG is "What if Fallout 1 but soviet

The Sum is anarchist total overhaul of Fallout Tactics (bonus it got funded by the kkkanada government twice)

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I've heard of Mutant: Year Zero. I'll check it out.

Also, damn, didn't know people were modding Fallout Tactics.

[–] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I mean have you played Fallout Tactics? It's arguably the start of Fallout games requiring mods to make them even remotely playable.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 months ago

Ah, interesting.

[–] neo@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

if you decide to play Morrowind IMO do it via OpenMW, which is a remake of the game engine. Runs great on multiple platforms.

When you play Deus Ex, at least use Kentie's launcher for modern resolution and lighting support. https://www.reddit.com/r/Deusex/comments/uftbzj/how_to_run_deus_ex_1_in_2022_decently/

Yeah, I plan to do just that, but thanks!

Hades, it’s a roguelike but fulfills the banger music and LGBTQIA+ in spades.

Gris, once again banger music, 2D instead of 3D platformer but is entirely pacifist, girl protagonist, kinda sorta cozy but in somber way, closest a game has gotten to making me cry (if you do buy it: go to the left when you start)

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Hades is great, but I've already played it extensively and had my fill of it, at least for now.

Gris, I have it on more of my side-list, but I'll take it into account...

  1. CrossCode (banger jazz fusion+prog OST, zelda-like dungeons, decent story about self-acceptance, great combat and bosses)
  2. Katamari Damacy (cozy, banger OST, wacky gameplay)
  3. ZeroRanger (GOATed OST, great aesthetic and story-gameplay integration)
  4. OFF (disturbing atmosphere and a story that's up to interpretation, artistically brilliant imo)
  5. Xanadu Next (japanese isometric dungeon crawler similar to Diablo but without the random loot and with a different build system, the music and atmosphere is pretty good, I also thought the story was pretty decent, make sure you collect all the records if you play it)
  6. Trails in the Sky trilogy (JRPGs with a great positional battle system, banger music and very charming and well written characters. Also, the world building is great. The next game in the series lost the charm imo, but most people like it as much)
  1. Ys: The Oath in Felghana (isometric action JRPG with gameplay that is a mixture of hack&slash, bullet hell and platformer, it's pretty unique. Also yhe music is good)
[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago

That Ys game you mentioned looks tempting...

[–] daniyeg@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

the life and suffering of sir brante. it's basically a choose your own adventure book but a little bit more complicated. it's a russian game and the world building is good so give it a try.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Oh, I heard of this game... Checking it out.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I wouldn't reccomend Daggerfall. It was revolutionary game back then, but the QoL have been abysmal even then. Currently the game is downright dreary unless you're heavily into very old crpg.

I played ELEX 1, and it was very boring.

Definitely do play Morrowind if you still didn't. Though refer to some modernising mod guides, the game did aged quite a bit but have many mods improving it.

If you didn't played it yet, play Shadow Tactics, literally only stealth game i ever liked.

Tale of Immortal - if you're into wuxia stories you will love it, otherwise pass as it is pretty specific niche game

Wandering Sword: probably best wuxia game out there (or at least in english), this one is in classic jrpg convention.

EMU: Suikoden series. 1-2 definitely, 3-4 optionally, 5 is good again. 1-2 is on PSX, 3-5 on PS2. Crime that this series isn't continued. There is spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicles but as usual in the case of spiritual successor it ain't it (though it's decent game worth playing on its own merit).

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

True enough.

What about the total conversation mod for Daggerfall?

The one that updates everything?

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

No idea did not heard about it.

Nintendo games

Play Kid Icarus uprising, its a good ds game that isnt well known compared to other nintendo titles

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

It is well-known, especially in recent years as its reputation grew, but not as oft-played as other Nintendo games, unfortunately.

But yes, I should play it.

SPACE STATION 14

Space Station 14 has remained my favorite multiplayer game. I try to recommend it to anyone I can.

It is a pseudo-remake of cult classic SS-13 which is also very good.

So it is a multiplayer only game and that scares a lot of people off that just want to play a single player game. But trust me the game is so good and has so much depth you won't mind the multiplayer element. And may in fact prefer it to a lot of single player experiences as I do.

The premise is you create a character. You have multiple alien species to choose from or human. Your character will have a unique look and name you come up with as well as some traits if you choose so.

Your character then joins a "shift". You can join at the beginning of one or at any other point.

A shift usually lasts two-ish hours. It can last from five minutes to an entire day (this was done once as an event).

So what do you do?

You have a job. You selected a few of them whilst creating your character. You can be a chef, engineer, security-officer, lawyer, scientist, captain of the ship, etc...

I won't go into detail of every job but they all have depth and a learning curve.

For your first shift I would recommend a janitor. You get to explore pretty much the entire station and interact with everyone. Your goal is to keep the station clean, keep vending machines stocked, and have fun.

"This sounds boring" TRUST ME ITS NOT.

You are in space where anything can happen. Your station has a set of laws, a chain of command. Your station has enemies...

THE SYNDICATE

The syndicate is a group of antagonists to the crew. Their goals are different between each agent.

Each shift of SS-14 has some form of antagonist. The syndicate are the most common so I will just discuss them.

When a shift begins a few random people will be chosen to play antags. They are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want but are given some objectives to complete such as "kill person" "steal thing" etc...

These will be people among the crew. But this is not a big game of among us. It is much more complicated and RP focused.

You can have hostage situations. Space pirates. Space dragons. Nuclear bombs detonating on the spac station. Anything that can happen will happen at some point.

HOW TO PLAY

The game seems daunting when you first play it. So many terms and so many players to interact with.

There are usually over 60 people on one station and they are all played by a player with their own unique personality and playstyle. You will interact with a lot of people. You will have fun and laugh with a lot of people. You will survive with a lot of people. You will die with a lot of people.

  • Read the rules to the server
  • Pick something easy to play as i.e. janitor, cargo tech
  • Ask for help. 9/10 the HOP of the station can assist you. Or the head above you can also help.
  • Have fun

I really hope anyone reading will try the game. It's one of my favorites and it has a really nice community

edit: this game is free and open source and can be played on steam or using their own launcher

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Okay, starring this. Thanks!

If it's really good I'll play FTL then...

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If you do like it i can also recomend Shortest Trip to Earth, just like FTL, but bigger and better

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

Never heard of it, but that makes me interested!

RE: vinyl CDs

geordi-no games

geordi-yes interactive moving pictures

My recs as of recent are:

  • Supraland (3D metrodvania and probably the best examples of such, big focus on puzzles so it scratches a Portal itch)
  • CrossCode(16 bit-esque Japanese style action RPG, I started it finally but haven't gotten very far yet lea-think )
  • Dyson Sphere Program(only if you like factory games, and yes I am still recommending this an will until I am dead in the dirt, possible autistic game candidate but more ADHD)
  • Balatro(roguelite poker game, great for quick pick up and put down, eager for it to come to mobile or Switch so I can play it on the go)

Stealth games

Have you ever played Mark of the Ninja? It's not terribly long, could finish it in a weekend but it's a lot of fun.
