While this is hella goofy, it looks like the bolts were already in place for a larger flange. And they just kinda… made do. Sorta.

[–] Iamdanno@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Anchor bolts were already installed, and then the base was changed. No time to redo it, so just make it work, and hope the client doesn't notice.

Probably didn't have the masonry bit they needed to do it.

[–] skepticalifornia@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's probably temporary until they come back with the bit and the anchors.

Someone fell against the bathroom sink 7 years ago during christmas, put just enough pressure on the drain pipe to crack it. Managed to seal it up tight by entombing it in half a tube of silicon caulk and a bunch of zipties to stabilize things in place.

One of these days i'll get around to replacing that PVC pipe and fix it proper.

Imagine if the pyramids were built by the lowest bidder.

[–] Bread@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They were, nothing cheaper than free slave labor.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

pretty sure the modern consensus is that the builders were well respected and well paid, and got to be buried in and near the pyramids they constructed.

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Being buried by your job sounds like a throwaway line that was supposed to be world building in a cyberpunk novel. Go to Walmart and can't find parking cause the lot is full of headstones of dead Walmart greeters.

[–] Bread@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I sure hope that is the case. Would be nice to have something positive in history.

Just so you know it is usually the lowest qualified builder of spec. There are loads of problems in how contracts are rewarded this one is a talking point not really covering the issue. Like noting that someone dying of Covid is a bit sad. Ok, yeah it's true but there is a lot more going on here.

Survivorship bias.

Slaves vs slaves

The only difference is the masters don’t have to live down with the plebs anymore and can go literally anywhere else in the world and stay there.

Wait until space travel becomes more affordable :)

Pyramids were built by skilled laborers.

[–] lordnikon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

they've gone ahead and switched back to metric without telling us.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Love that movie.

[–] SonicBlue03@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I don't think this crew will be building any pyramids any time soon.

[–] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Anyone can make a pyramid that last forever, it takes a properly educated engineer to make a pyramid that barely stands with the fewest stone blocks.

It's like you're having a bad week and you have that one friend that is there to support you through thick and thin. Meanwhile, three of your other friends are patting you on the back saying, "Hey, buddy...tough break - hang in there, man. Gotta go!"

[–] DavidGarcia@feddit.nl 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the secret ingredient is whips

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Didnt they prove that the pyramids were built by craftsmen and laborers, not slaves?

[–] KeefChief13@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

They got the 1

That’ll hold

[–] v_raton@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago
