This shit'll never happen.

What happened to the sentencing for his guilty felony trial?

Think it is Sept 18th so a few weeks. It's taken way to long, but ideally there is no good answer. He should be in prison for many of his actions. The only reason I think the supreme fraud voted for them being immune for actions during office is that they know they couldn't argue his actions he was impeached for wouldn't be direct evidence of subverting the results of an election.

Thank you. Yeah I agree. I didn't have time yesterday to look it up. I don't know how I missed this. It looks like this shit will never happen either...

Trump was scheduled to be sentenced on July 11. Judge Juan Merchan said the former president will now be sentenced on September 18, “if such is still necessary.”

The announcement underscores the far-reaching implications of Monday’s Supreme Court ruling, in which the court’s conservative wing found that presidents have absolute immunity for “core” presidential duties.

As much as this dirbag deserves to rot in a cell I'll be shocked if he ever does. I lost all hope in this piece of shit seeing justice when he was acquitted for a second time by the Senate.

As is tradition. Punishment for crime in the US is for the poor. You can bet if I took that many boxes of documents and even classified materials home I'd be in prison within the year.

Simply defy the court's instructions to not threaten staff and witnesses or their families. You would be jailed before you could finish blinking.

Hey now, maybe not! Didn't sell yourself short - if you were able to get into the same building as those docs you'd probably be wealthy enough to avoid fancy lawyers too!

Why does this "need more attention"? After Cannon dismissed, it was pretty obvious to anyone paying attention (and was regularly mentioned in coverage of the dismissal) that it wouldn't get litigated until after the election--if at all, since if Trump wins the election he'll have the justice department drop the case.

Apparently you didn't read. He's trying to get this jumped to people in his Kangaroo Courts, then get it elevated to the Supreme Court whom he thinks will save his ass.

That's why it needs more attention.

None of this is surprising or new. It's just a description of the methods of delay. That's literally the thesis of the article: Trump is trying to delay until after the election, and the government's filings indicate they aren't trying to fight that timeline, so Trump was successful.

It was already "jumped" to a friendly court (Cannon), which is why and how it was dismissed for such bizarre reasons. And it is the prosecution of a former president. It was always going to be appealed to SCOTUS. None of this is new. And none of that will matter if Trump is elected.

"Delay until after the election" has been Trump's strategy for this case since it started.

Merrick Garland is a traitor. He should be treated as such.

He waited 2.5 years before doing jack shit. He's a conservative who was trying to let Trump slide until Congress put pressure on him to actually do something. He's a fucking traitor, just like every other conservative in our government.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's quite an interpretation. Prosecutions for Jan 6th started pretty immediately after he was put in his post, and that whole prosecuting a former President for crimes took some time and investigation to work out. It was stalled from day one by the courts, remember? Garland seems to have done his job just fine.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Interpretation? It's a fact. He famously did not begin investigating Trump for over 2 years and only began after congress publicly implored him to. If he began investigating Trump at an appropriate time, we might have seen justice for the leader of the insurrection before the upcoming elections. This is not an "interpretation". This is a fact.

As was before will be so today, and will remain being so tomorrow. Until the opposite is proven to me I will keep assuming that Trump will continue to get away with everything forever.
