Just wanted to see if you all had some thoughts/resources to help explain to a friend that the British medical system's restrictions on youth transitioning are based on a culture of transphobia, not some scientific consensus. The friend in question is, I think, a well-meaning "we should be more like Europe" liberal, and was reading about the UKs treatment of trans youth (namely their restrictions on transitioning) and seemed to think it was based on some level-headed analysis instead of it being TERF Island. I'm trying to educate myself on the whole situation since I've only got a general understanding, so let me know if you have any reading/thoughts and I'll take a look.

The podcast maintenance phase had some great deep dives on this. On just how tiny the number of kids actually transitioning was and how the studies are based on the opinions of parents on a transphobic forum.

Not reading, per se, but the video "I Emailed My Doctor 133 Times: The Crisis In the British Healthcare System" by Philosophy Tube comes to mind. Check out the sources if you're looking specifically for reading

Going about this with evidence and studies is probably the wrong way of doing this. Most science surrounding trans issues is incredibly flawed and for every result that's pro-trans you can easily find one that's anti-trans. The best approach here is a moral one or a legal one.

there's been discussion here on the cass review before. I'm not familiar with it beyond its use by terfs seeking legitimacy

"Oh you think we should be more like Europe? TERF island is doing its damnedest to be less like Europe much to think about"
