I live in Wyoming. The upper panel is very true. The bottom panel is not even needed because there are quite a few other things that will likely kill you before the wendigo does.

Ah, I thought that the Wendigo was posting about its love of the outdoors on its blog. The internet has ruined me. I suppose it would end up a bit hungry if it was that far from its neighbours.

Not to be too pedantic but how're you fitting two mountains on only 800 acres?

[–] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The mountains don't need to fit entirely within the 800 acres, just enough that you can tap them for two red mana.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I think wendigo infested mountains are red and black

[–] Rolando@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

I tend to make a mountain out of a molehill...

[–] Omgboom@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 month ago

It's in a valley between 2 mountains

The time honored tradition of ranchers and homesteaders encroaching on public lands

Nah, happiness is 17 different Pho places within walking distance.

The duality of humanity.

Only if it has running water, a water heater, indoor plumbing, electricity, and high-speed internet.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (3 children)

You're not going to need internet with all the maintenance work you'll be doing on 800 hectare

Agreed, but really if I weren't trying to profit on any of it... I wouldn't touch much of any of it. Let nature do it's work on all of it but the way in/out and living space

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

800 hectares is 1976 acres. That’s a huge property. What sort of maintenance would you be doing? Farming? That’s almost 5 times the size of an average farm in the US. You’re talking about a large commercial farming operation, not an “off-grid lifestyle” property.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Who said hectare? OP says acre.

[–] bamfic@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have several friends who live on off grid properties of 40-60 acres each.

It's a lot of work. Like constant work. And the weather sucks in winter and summer.

I like visiting them but seeing the reality of it killed my dreams of living off grid forever.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 month ago

Right don't get me wrong I dream of this too, but I've also had enough experience spending time in remote places to know that this comes with a drastic lifestyle change that isn't very realistic at least not for right now for us.

Still toy with the idea of finding a happy medium though.

Invite the Wendigo in, we need a 4th for euchre.

[–] leds@feddit.dk 5 points 1 month ago

Needs a third panel with rural person making this meme to keep the city people away

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Cabins are for vacations. Living in a city is way better than living in the boonies for day to day life.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's just, like, your opinion man

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

Maybe, but my opinion is borne out of experience. Having to drive 40+ minutes for groceries, running a generator for power, a water pump to get running water, and shitting in an outhouse gets old.

Also, people are nice if you aren't a shut in. I like being able to wander over to friends' house without it being that much of a hassle.

Easy there, satan

Grow and hunt, solar panels, electric pump, and a septic tank you can pay someone to clear for you. Technology didn’t stop in the 1930’s. You can also invite people to your land, fulfilling your last problem.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The fuck, do you think those of us who live rural, are missing modern technology? Lol that's hilarious...you gotta be really young to think this

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 1 month ago

Depends on your house, right. I know someone who lives completely off grid, although they do have indoor plumbing. They're not even way out in the wilds either, just 10-15 miles from the nearest town. They're actually only a mile or two from a hydroelectric plant! I'd say it is unusual and unnecessary though, in most cases

[–] shani66@ani.social 6 points 1 month ago

Eh, i wouldn't even vacation out here. Maybe a day trip to a real nice mountain, but rural life suuuucks
