Why do some cultures prefer to light their homes with bright white neon lights? And others with more yellow dimmed lighting?

I didn't know that I'd say it's cultures. My wife and I grew up in the same culture but she can only stand warm whites and I prefer as close to daylight in color temperature as possible.

It's just preferences afaik.

I thought it was a class/wealth thing, not a culture thing. But I could very well be wrong.

I prefer bright white lights in my work spaces, like my kitchen and more yellow lighting in spaces like my living room.

Mr Vonnegut, may I offer this as an intro into that exact subject from an early 20th century Japanese design perspective?

I read once there's a subconscious influence on your perception of the temperature in the room, based on the lighting.

So whiter lit rooms "feel" cooler.

Cultural phenomenon, or personal choice? I like yellow lighting, but my brother prefers white.

Definitely personal choice. Also, it depends on what look you're going for in the room. Do you want it cozy and warm? -> yellowish; Professional, futuristic or sterile? -> white or even blueish

No such thing as "white neon", presumably you mean "fluorescent."

Actually, I think this is a question about "colour temperature"

sick cultures vs healthy ones

I prefer whatever uses less electricity and still produce enough light to read by.

i have migraines so i have to stick to warm light, and dim lol. white is a trigger

I have both colors and the reason for yellow or orange is because it reminds me of the warm colors of a campfire at night.

White or blue light disrupts and delays my circadian rhythm and fucks with my sleep, so after sunset, all my smart lights are programmed to switch to dark orange or yellow.
