When I was young, maybe 5, I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Except, I for some reason thought it was two books in one and the other book was called CS Lewis. I read every other page. I think right before that I read some choose your own adventure book and it had me really confused about how books work.

It's been decades now and I don't really remember, but I've since read it properly and yeah I have no idea how I even did it. I was really just learning to read at that point, so my guess is that I could read without comprehending because it was normal for me then

  1. I read The Hobbit when I was like 5, maybe even 4, and I absolutely thought the elves were like Christmas elves because I had no other concept and if anything in the text contradicted that, it went over my head.

(cw: Harry Potter bellow)

spoiler2. I thought Snape was a woman, but not just that, I thought he looked like a stereotypical Halloween witch. I was like TEN when I read The Sorceror's stone, and somehow I wasnt really disabused of this notion until the movie came out?

  1. accidentally seeing sex scenes in movies when really young made me think that sex was when you made out with someone whilest naked until I was like ... twelve. Despite the fact that apparently my mom had a frank sex talk with me when I was really young that I dont even remember. Like the only difference in my head between making out and sex was if you had clothes on.

Idk if this a media thing, but I remember thinking the Audubon Society was "the Autobahn Society" for an embarrassingly long time and was always like "wait why does the Hitler Highway sponsor bird conservation stuff??"

Oh, and thinking Forest Gump was a real historical figure as a kid lmao

I knew it was a movie and he was being played by Tom Hanks who's an actor and a different guy, but I thought it was Based On A True Story™️ and that the character was a real guy that they embellished

"Of course he was a real guy, who else would've founded the real Bubba-Gump Shrimp Company restaurants?"
