Don’t threaten me with a good time

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 161 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The idea that he might not is rather off-putting

[–] owlinsight@lemm.ee 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This goes to show how hard it is to put a rich white^orange?^ man in prison. The whole system failed at every turn and there's STILL the chance he might become president again...ain't that something?

Click bait. We've heard this for ages. Wake me up when things actually happen, until then stop giving media who keep him front and center the ad clicks.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Yep, this is sooo stupid. They will not jail a former president, even the Dems in power now wouldn't want that, as much as they're against the red team they're all in the elite team and arresting one of their own and jailing them would mean the rest are vulnerable. Shits not going to happen.

"may" "might" "could" "soon" "impending" etc...

We've been seeing this for 6 years. At this rate I think it's more likely he 'may' succumb to his decades-long suicide by cheeseburger before he faces any actual consequences for his crimes.

[–] InternetUser2012@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

Either way it'll be a good day for the world.

[–] blue_zephyr@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Except he's actually on trial now for multiple felonies.

May the grass on his grave never be able to grow from the amount of people that piss there.

[–] leapingleopard@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The only problem with pissing on Trump's grave is... eventually you run out of piss.

[–] maos@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

It's okay, we can make more, it's a simple recipe.

[–] yiliu@informis.land 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Woah, dude, that kind of graphic violence has no place in this community!

[–] Hazdaz@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Strike a deal?!

You insight violence. You try to take over the Capitol with your army of maggots. You steal nuclear secrets. You are a puppet for Putin and after all that the government is offering up a goddamn deal?!?

He should be stripped of his fancy suit, forced to put on prison orange and his mug shot should be plastered all over the news. There should be no deal for a crime lord. The fact that it might even happen, just proves how much some people in government just don;t get the seriousness of this situation. That entire family needs to be taken down. Start with his kids and finish it by throwing Don into prison for treason. In fact prison is better than traitors deserve.

[–] elscallr@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (4 children)

He should be stripped of his fancy suit

Ok not to be too facetious but he has really bad suits.

This is such a stupid and irresponsible article.

First, Trump has to be found guilty.

Second, he has to be found guilty before the elections.

Third, he has to lose the election (which is more or less a toss-up), because if he wins the election, he'll pardon himself on all federal charges.

Fourth, even if all of that other shit happens, he has to be ordered to report to jail immediately after sentencing, without waiting for an appeal that will certainly be attempted.

This relies on so many things happening in just the right order that it's functionally speculation.

If Putin "accidentally" hits a NATO target while trying to strike Ukraine, and if NATO responds in kind, and if Putin reacts to NATO's response by launching nuclear weapons, and if NATO countries respond by launching a full-scale nuclear attach on Russia, then the world will have global thermonuclear war and humanity will have solved human-created climate change via nuclear winter! Yeah, it's all possible, but it's not probable.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Let’s throw some more logs on this fire….

Donald Trump has been charged with 37 criminal counts covering seven different violations of federal law

The election is nov 2024

The trial starts in august 2023

There are at least 10 other candidates running for republican

Seriously. First thing I said when I read that is I hope so.

[–] MonsieurHedge@kbin.social 29 points 1 year ago (6 children)

You know, I don't know if I want him dead in prison or squealing like a stuck pig more. I'm inclined towards Team Sellout on an intellectual level, but his corpse slumped in a concrete box has a certain visceral appeal.

[–] wolfpack86@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Who is he going to squeal on? He's the top target.

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago

"It was all Mike Pence's idea."

[–] YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I believe the world doesn't care but everyone wants him gone and away from our lives.

[–] blanketswithsmallpox@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I think that every day until I realize 1/3 of the population would still vote for him without a second thought. It's been far beyond sad and pitiable for years now.

Now it's simply malicious and a direct threat to every single one of our lives. The other 2/3rds need to start treating it as such.

Your terms are acceptable.

[–] suction@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I hate myself for what inhuman things I’d be able to morally excuse if they happened to Trump

[–] treefrog@lemm.ee 16 points 1 year ago

He's a danger to every living being on the planet. See the new GOP climate proposal?

No moral excuses needed.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 23 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I'm worried that this is getting dragged out so long that he might actually have a chance of becoming president again. If that happens, then couldn't he just pardon himself?

[–] Bobert@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago

Two words. Constitutional Cris.

That's a joke by the way. As if those two words meant anything after his first term.

Since he is an ex-president who is guaranteed a secret service detail for life, isn't he much more likely to be granted house arrest or some other sort of "private" incarceration?

[–] BrandoGil@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He is, but also because of age. Judges and juries are very lenient on the elderly when it comes to sentencing due to prison survivability. That said, a deal is guaranteed and leniency isn't, especially when we're likely talking about white collar prison

[–] ashok36@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (5 children)

While that's generally true, this case is completely unprecedented. Ex-president charged with stealing top secret documents, obstruction of justice, and who knows what else before we're done.

Not to mention the other indictments he's got coming up for election interference and inciting a coup attempt.

No matter how lenient you may want to be, you absolutely cannot set a precedent that the punishment for attempting a coup of the United States government is... confinement to your luxury resort where you can continue to gin up another coup attempt at your leisure. You have to make an example of him or you just invite a repeat of the same attempt over and over again.

I'll believe it when it happens. Jackass will likely get off with no real repercussion.

[–] MiddleWeigh@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

His "prison" will be mar a Lago. They already have a gate and guards.

I don't trust the justice system whatsoever. Jail is for economic dissidents.

[–] YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Trump for sure would serve his prison sentence in a luxury hotel and find a way to bill the government for it.

[–] Kraven_the_Hunter@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

"if he doesn't strike a deal" implies that he has something of value to offer the prosecution. I realize that this slime ball would turn on anyone if it meant a moderately improved condition for himself, but what could he possibly have that the prosecution doesn't already? The guy can't understand words unless they're accompanied by pictures, or if they include his own name in every sentence.

[–] ArugulaZ@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Really? With Aileen Cannon on the case, I doubt it. After all we've seen over the past eight years, I've gotta see results before I get excited. The taste of Mueller still weighs heavily on the tongue.

I think narcissist always think they're right

[–] Ulrich_the_Old@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 year ago

Whatever, I want him to die in prison. I would call it a yuge win and I would be dancing in the street. Also the sooner the better.

[–] Clbull@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

He's facing serious federal charges of mishandling highly classified documents that could land him at least a decade in prison, and we're not even talking about the implications of Jan 6th, which he has largely escaped legal responsibility for.

Trump would be wise to strike a plea deal. Imagine an outlandish scenario where the winner of the 2024 US election is incarcerated, which very well could happen because Republican voters are fickle. Trump is still favorite to win the Republican nomination, and I think there are loads more people who don't like Joe Biden.

Spoilers for the hopelessly optimistic:

He won't be dying in prison. In fact it is exceedingly unlikely he will ever even be found guilty of anything that brings more than a stern talking to and a small fine.

We will be lucky if he manages to not win the election at this point.

"Find out " is not something that ever really happens to people that travel in his circles in this country.

You or I? Oh yeah, they would have a place for us right next to the rope they have waiting for Snowden before they got us in the holding cell. The guilty verdict in a trial would be a foregone conclusion. But that doesn't happen to the well to do and connected in the good ole US of A.
