It's been 30 years and jokes about Windows expanding to fill available space still work.
Lols. Just a few days I got an update to Plasma 6.2 on Linux, and it's stunningly beautiful and fast.
One makes the computer better and is free. The other.. Well...
This is a really great release. Since the KDE Gear and Framework update yesterday all gripes I experienced with the Plasma 6 Megarelease are fixed.
Everytime I get a KDE update I am looking forward to trying new cool stuff.
Every Patch Tuesday I get an overwhelming feeling of dread.
Windows is becoming malware
Becoming?

Boot with a Linux live CD and delete it. No?
Boot with a Linux live CD, and then delete Windows. I agree.
I wouldn't. This isn't a real problem but you'll probably make one if you force delete things marked as necessary for Checkpoint Updates. This 8.5gig of "stuff" is only there because 24H2 is still in Beta and it has incorrectly marked some things from the 23H update as required for future updates.
Is 24H2 still "beta" because I am surely not in the technology preview ring and not in any other preview program?
Because my PC got it installed and it looks to me as it's right now becoming GA status.
Welcome to your daily "windows sucks" post.
They should be a tad more frequent, imo.
Followed by how Linux is so amazing
Have you heard of our lord and saviour, GNU+Linux?
Too bad I can't force my business to go to Linux. I would love if all our labs were just Nix OS config files or something like that.
Technically you can use Nix in windows systems.
...?
If only there was any professional competitive design software for it...
Good article but not really cybersecurity related
"ooo something I can post to shit on Microsoft about, where should I put it ... CYBERSECURITY!"
microshit and its products are a huge attack surface and looks like it just got bigger ;)
See what you did there
always great to have a good excuse to shit on windows
It's actually a shit article that doesn't do anything to explain why this is happening, because once you know WHY you realize this is NBD and will be going away when 24H2 is actually released.
This article isn't great but at the bottom it does explain what's going on.
WTF is up with this 24H2 update I keep hearing about?
It appears to have a ton of issues, from this to permanently BSOD's people's computers?
WTF is up with this 24H2 update I keep hearing about?
The first thing you have to know is that it hasn't been released yet! That's right, every one of these articles screaming about 24H2 bugs is based on Preview, commonly called Beta, software.
This particular issue being caused because Microsoft is moving to "Checkpoint Updates" so that updates will install faster and be smaller in size.
Right now 24H2 is marking parts of 23H3 as necessary for future updates so they can't be deleted. This will 100% be fixed before 24H4 goes RTM.
Basically this one is a non-issue. It's being used as an outrage generator.
It's fine because Microsoft is shipping out 10gb drives with every W11 license purchase, right?
The patch will remove the cache and all the files Windows don't need.
Other than for work purposes, I will never go back to using Windows
Today at work I have noticed that on one user's computer there were 22 GB of some Windows Update files remaining in C:\WINDOWS\CSC
that don't show up in Disk Cleanup tool. That's typical Windows bullshit.
