This almost looks like a painting

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I thought it was a painting. The composition and colors are just too good.

Fun fact: the least perfect Scottish mountain is Princess street in Manchester because it is a. Not a mountain and b. Not even in Scotland

Tune in for more.

It's always disappointing that photos look better than real person.

I think this is actually the first photo of the Boucle that I've seen that isn't horribly oversaturated

The heather and trees do actually go that colour at this time of year

[–] hexual@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

You're spot on.

I would actually say, around this place, nature is better than any photo can capture.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, I hate when I get catfished by nature.

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Especially when I'm trying to catch walleye

How did you edit this?

The distribution of tonal values and the colors are very tasteful. It must have been beautiful light in the first place, but surely you had to develop this, right?

[–] hexual@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

It was definitely gorgeous light for sure. This is a Pixel 9 Pro XL JPG with some minor edits in Photoshop: lift blacks, dodge and burn to aid direction of light, subtle glow. That sort of thing.

Honestly, Pixel did 85% of the work.

Buachaille Etive Mòr translates as "great/big herdsman of Etive" for anyone curious, with Etive being the name of the river/glen.

[–] hexual@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yup. And actually applies to a range of peaks. The name of the actual peak people take photos of, including mine, is Stob Dearg.

Which Google Translate thinks means Red Stubble haha

It means Red Point

https://getoutside.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/guides/the-gaelic-origins-of-place-names-in-britain/

Gaelic defines colours differently from English. The term "red" here means the orange-brown hue of the rock, which is most obvious in the foreground of your picture.

Great pic!

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Pfff. I know Skyrim when I see it!

[–] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 1 points 3 weeks ago

This almost looks like a screenshot from a modern video game.
