In case people aren't clear, these soldiers are the operators of the additional THAAD system they are deploying to Israel. These aren't infantry being sent to kick in doors alongside the IDF. THAAD is a ballistic missile defense system with no offensive capabilities. We already have a THAAD unit deployed to Israel.

Don't be mad because you expect to see headlines saying US Soldiers are killing civilians in Gaza. Be mad because this enhances Israel's ability to continue escalating conflict with Iran and hiding behind US cover when Iran strikes back.

There was a pretty great episode of Stargate that explained why offering a defensive technology like that is still offensive support.

In that circumstance we (earth) were literally just powering a shield and the good guys decided to stop supplying the fuel to power that shield because it turns out it was being used to defend the aggressive Nazi-like-analogs that were actually the instigators of the conflict.

as the Netanyahu government prepares to attack Iran—a move that's expected to provoke an Iranian response.

No shit.

Biden wants Kamala to lose.

[–] SloppyPuppy@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Its not Biden. Its Bibi. He will time the Iran attack at the best point in time to affect Kamala’s results just right.

His wikipedia actually says:

Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu

I wonder if he likes the nickname or if he just has it without his consent.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

He uses it, as well as his opponents. It's not a political statement one way or the other.

[–] fine_sandy_bottom@lemmy.federate.cc 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't really know much about it but a podcast I listened to a while back said that Israelis are a bit obsessed with this type of nick name.

[–] SloppyPuppy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Nah not obsessed, this is just his nickname, everyone uses it regardless if they’re for or against him. There are some more politicians with nick names. Buji for example is the president Isaac Herzog.

i wonder what the posts from .worlders are going to look after she loses.

obviously they're going to blame leftists for not voting for someone who actively refuses to adopt any the leftists platforms or ideals and i'm hoping that there will be some sort of introspection from liberals; but i suspect that the diet reddit of the lemmyverse is just going to reddit.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What's interesting is they won't blame Republicans for passing laws that will help them rig elections and they won't blame Biden for enabling Israel on its path to starting WW3. They only know how to blame the left for not being obedient.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

i think it's worse than that; not only do they not blame republicans for rigging elections, but they also blame the people experiencing some of the results of that rigging (ie voter suppression) as lazy for not jumping through the intentional bureaucratic hoops designed to make them fail at all costs and then close their ears and and loudly parrot "vote blue no matter who" when confronted w evidence of the reality of voting outside of sufficiently affluent areas.

i also think biden is much worse than either liberals or leftsists give him credit for. in the past, people saw him and too coocoo conservative or populist to seriously consider his presidential runs and now he's called a progressive despite doing nothing to earn it (defense of marriage did nothing and the inflation act is being used to ramp up fossil fuel production). he was a trump like politician before trump became a politician and that had always make me suspect that biden will go along with an escalation in the middle east as is happening now.

What are you talking about? Biden has accelerated adoption of renewable energy, expanded consumer protections against banks, frozen or reduced student loan burdens, strengthened unions, helped make healthcare more accessible (including reproductive healthcare), etc. All pretty anti-conservative causes.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

What are you talking about?

reality; not talking points. Here are some examples:

Biden has accelerated adoption of renewable energy,

he's used the inflation act to ramp up fossil fuel production to highest levels ever seen in recorded history.

frozen or reduced student loan burden

he literally created the student loan situation in 2005 with the student loan act; he used to brag about it.

strengthened unions

he busted the railroad workers strike and then gave them a pittance to mitigate political blowback. he's also continued to weaken whistleblower protection as his predecessors (both trump and obama) had done.

helped make healthcare more accessible

he's reversed the expansion on medicaid and will do nothing to ensure that the affordable care act stays alive.
