I think it's our responsibility, as a species, to not allow billionaires to spread outside of Earth

Agreed, these people are a cancer and we can't let them metastasize.

It would be cheaper and faster to stop fucking up earth than to go to mars to colonize. And if we could terraform Mars, you could just use that tech to heal earth no?

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 months ago

honestly terraforming mars isn't that complex, it's just really fucking difficult. the big things are heating is up A LOT (we know that part) and preventing the solar wind from sandblasting off the atmosphere. Like you can't really make mars worse, if it doesn't work you just keep trying.

meanwhile on earth we have stuff like "ecosystems" and "weather patterns" to consider and it's way harder to cool things down than it is to create heat.

it is however true that if we have the ability to terraform mars to a serious degree, we are basically guaranteed to have the different technology to fix earth.

“As the proud owner of a Cybertruck picture that I took last week, I couldn’t be more excited for Elon’s planetary dominance,” said David Kelenic. “This man has literally done no wrong, if you don’t count the COVID misinformation, right-wing conspiracy theory amplification, antisemitism, and his atrocious appearance on Saturday Night Live. Can’t we just give the man a break? He’s just trying his best as a billionaire, who could easily solve world hunger but chooses to purchase dying social media platforms instead.”

He can never be the worst person on Earth, Trump has that locked in. But it now makes sense why he wants to go to Mars.

And one planet where he thinks he's the coolest, badass on it.
