General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

That is pretty factual, isn't it? Assuming they don't have another employment and they are living from dividends or rents, they are not working people.

Don’t make me start to think positively of this guy.

Holy shit, me and Starmer agree on something.

Weirdly he seems to have a problem with expressing things. If you actually look at their policies they're pretty good it's just they suck at communicating them to the general public.

Eh, I agree with him on a lot of things... this, legally assisted dying, means testing the WFA, planning system changes, enjoying curry (lol), banning disposable vapes, etc

The article is in the telegraph. So that's the lie right there.

It's probably better to find a non-partisan news source, thing with a bit more integrity like the Kremlin times or something

This. The whole bias of the article is a lie.

He did not say "landlords and shareholders are not ‘working people" he did not even suggest it.

When asked that question, he said, "they are not included in my definition." That definition being of working taxes.

They are also not included in the Tory definition. This is why they have been paying capital gains tax rather than income tax.

Unless the people complaining are also arguing capital gains tax should end. And all investment income should be taxed under income tax. The whole debate is a lie designed to sow division.

I do not see any house renter looking to pay at income tax rates when selling property. Or pay income tax on all rent paid to the landlords.

And id love to see these right wing jurnalists answer to. "Oh sorry are you aguing rental share and property income should be taxed at PAYE rates?"

That's totally unfair! Some of them might have actual jobs too!

A few anyways.
