Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

I was just browsing a thread on c/nfl looking for new mods. There were multiple 12+ year Redditors there offering to help.

Got me wondering. There are 14,000 of us in this community. How many of us are ten year plus users who have just had enough?

Edit: I didn't expect this post to be as poignant as it became. There are so many of you... I can't reply to everyone. I'm an 11 year user and have modded something like 150 subs over the years. I'm really sad too, but I'm finding that lemmy has most of the content I'm looking for, just needs more comments.

The API was a big blow, but removing awards on past posts and deleting coin balances is really dumb.

I was there for right around 10 years. Deleted all my comments off my main with powerdeletesuite before the api was nuked.

8 Years+ due to being an account-less lurker. Still use for official subreddits and occasional boredom. I guess having twice the content is also fine.

[–] jezus_christus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

My oldest, out of 5, account was 13y. I fucking loved reddit, but the last 5-6 years it was still easily 1-2hours a day but on tablet and phone. Always RIF. Since RIF is gone I only have being back on my porn account through browser.

✋ 15ish years. Left after Reddit confirmed they wouldn't be changing the policy

I don't really want to think about it being that long, considering how quickly I up and left as soon as RiF was supposed to shut down. Not relying on Reddit for Google results is practically impossible for me.

[–] megane_kun@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

My oldest account is at 9 years 10 months at the moment. Was a lurker for a time before that too. I haven't deleted my accounts out of concern of my comments reappearing, but I've kept any interaction with that site at a minimum.

Most of the time, I just check to see if any comments resurfaced, or if I've got a love letter from the admins. Neither has happened so far, but I'm not sure it won't happen. Until then, I will keep scrubbing my accounts.

I don't see myself returning there. I've lost any desire to do so, and my old, yet scrubbed accounts will serve as a reminder never to interact with that site ever again. Peek, if I must, but never interact.

9 years on reddit. I didn't post a lot of content or comments but I read a lot. As soon as they killed 3rd party apps, I left. And switched to lemmy. I like it here. I think I already posted more comments here, than on reddit. I don't miss reddit at all.

[–] thersina@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

10 years, pretty much on the nose, I was there until RIF went away, and been here since.

[–] t45l@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

11 years - RIF on mobile and Apollo on ipad so lost access on both. Didn't bother deleting my account as I mostly lurked. Weekend of 1st-2nd July was rough and then I was surprised how little I missed my daily scrolling. Lemmy has enough news, memes and gaming to fill the gap.

[–] Drunemeton@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

14 year old here. I've been back a few times to run Power Delete Suite to modify my existing comments, then delete them. Not sure what's happening, but the above is "a few times" as I checked once and sure enough some of my deleted comments were reappearing on that damned site!

I've also deleted all saved comments, etc.

[–] MrShelbs@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

10+ years here, not sure how long because I deleted my account.

I deleted it towards the end of June, when Christian announced Apollo was closing down, and how Spez fucked him by twisting his comments.

I was very active in *Nix subs, like Linux, Ubuntu, elementaryOS, helping users. I was also active in the macOS patching subs (mojave / Catalina / OpenCore legacy), with guides and news. So there's definitely some substance lost by me deleting all my posts / comments. Do I care? Not really.

[–] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Almost to 10. 9yrs 6 months before I left.

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 years ago

16 years for me. They took away the app I preferred (joey) so I went somewhere else.

[–] Hitchie_Rawtin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Almost 11 years with this username, a few years before that with another account that was linked to IRL stuff so decided to dedoxify myself.

I'm glad tbh - Reddit's been tailspinning as an experience since 2016 at least, it's just become much more aggressive about hating it's userbase and free labour recently.

[–] abon999@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Around 8 years here. I really hate ads, so i just leave this shitty network.

[–] grandkaiser@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

11 years. Had to use an extension to manually block Reddit to stop myself from automatically going to Reddit for the first two months.

[–] sapetoku@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

12+ years user, I nuked all my accounts when the 3rd party apps died. I still follow a few subs that have no replacement yet.

Those events right before summer reddit ensure its a smoldering pile of rotting compost.

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

9 years on my last account. About 13 or 14 years on my first one that was doxxing me

[–] Bravebellows@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 years ago

Left when Apollo wasn't allowed to continue

[–] JS404@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

14y 6mo. I only logged in just now for the first time in 4 weeks to actually check how long I was a member.

I left Digg and headed over to Reddit for similar reasons.

I sense a pattern...

Around 11 years here, still using Reddit but slowly making the transition to Lemmy. Has been a great experience so far, I hope more people migrate so we can have more active communities.

[–] spiffy_spaceman@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I was there for at least 10 years. Not going back.

[–] elfahbeht@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

My longest running account will be 10 years old in December.

[–] digitalgadget@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Over 10. I left for Voat, then it died, then I didn't come back for a long time. Started enjoying it again and now I'm done.

[–] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago

[–] myusernameisokay@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Joined in 2009. Pretty much never browse Reddit anymore other than specific scenarios.

[–] scarcer@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

12 or 13 years? Don't really remember or care!
