This is the actions of a rational person who tries to keep the vibes good. You should not apologise for reaching out to other admins trying to preempt something shitty from happening. Seriously, this is completely fine. I would do the same thing in order to get someone from a hostile instance to help me out. I lie all the time in my day to day life when I interact with people I have to convince to do something. That's what you do.
