I'm trying compile (for instructional use) a set of very vivid/egregious/horrifying examples of consent manufacturing in the Western media. Stuff like this:

Got any good examples like this? Post 'em!

I don't know if these are exactly what you mean but I hoard images I think might be good for reposting later

There’s this classic from hurricane Katrina:

And this pairs well with just about any Russiagate headline:

can you give me context? I'd like to understand this image.

I think that it's from a bot that tracks title changes to New York Times article titles (or perhaps it's the content, not the title? my memory is bad). So original was:

The police entered the compound and fired rubber-tipped bullets. Anger was already building in response to the looming expulsion of several Palestinian families from their homes in the city.

And then they edited it to:

Gaza militants fired rockets toward Jerusalem and the Israeli police fought with Palestinian protesters in an escalation of violence after a week of increasing changes.

You can see how much that changes what is actually being said.

It tracks title, abstract, and body changes. This was an abstract. It was actually the thing that prompted me to start compiling this, as it was so egregiously evil.

Are they web articles and they're changing them on the fly based on shifting winds of what gets clicks? If its evidence of an agenda, I'm confused why the first edition of the article was ever out in the public eye to begin with, or even written for that matter if editorial makes it clear what kind of work needs to be produced at that publication.

No, it's their own writing. The assignment is to explain some scientific result in simple language. The first pass is usually full of academic-speak, so we then talk about ways to simplify and shorten while enhancing clarity. By the time they get to the last draft, it's in plain language with just the core of the idea.

thanks! wasnt familiar with that.

Why is it that every time I see Henry Kissingers name, it’s attached to the most evil shit I’ve ever heard?

[–] hypnotoad__@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 weeks ago

I know the answer to this one!

Cause he's an evil fuck

This one’s an older example, but there’s an interview with former CIA agent John Stockwell where he describes in detail how the CIA spread lies about Cuba. I transcribed the whole interview here, some good quotes are highlighted.

I'm fairly sure adam johnson posted a pithy image about how gazans are killed while israelis are murdered

another one I've seen is the before 2022/after 2022 coverage of ukrainian nazis. there was an amalgam of 12-20 headlines from before 2022 talking about ukrainian far right nationalists (nazis) vs post 2022 coverage

if you want to be super current, you could probably find headlines from before this week talking about HTS stoning people and generally being awful, contrast it with the fawning interviews jolani has gotten this week where he's portrayed as woke al qaida

Fabulous. Thank you!

Just about everything related to preventative measures for COVID-19. The first instance that jumps to my mind is the isolation guidelines essentially being dictated by Delta, the airliner. That’s it. Only the whims of a corporation. Don’t have any screenshots or anything on me at the moment but there is a lot in here, though! (everyone should watch the video this is attached to, as well)

Did you know the California Supreme Court rules that it’s fine for your employer not to follow regulations related to COVID safety because to do otherwise would be catastrophic for business and while ruling otherwise was ‘legally and morally’ correct it would be a ‘floodgate’ case for widespread employer liability? They literally said this.

Oooo, I haven't seen any of this. Great (by which I mean terrible) stuff. Thanks!

this quote demonizing the CPC, from an article that was just posted to hexbear, might not be vivid/egregious/horrifying, but it's pretty slanted

https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/12/politics/trump-xi-inauguration-china-analysis/index.html

Xi’s presence would also be seen as endorsing a democratic transfer of power — anathema for an autocrat in a one-party state obsessed with crushing individual expression.
